Where can I get a hold of a Bonnet badge from, cheap?

Hello all,

Looking to make a paperweight out of a bit of Mahogany wood and a Porsche badge.

I have the wood block (having a woodworking factory making kitchen units/bedroom wardrobes helps!) but just need the Porsche Badge. Prices seem to be around the £80 mark for a new one. Does anyone know if I can get a hold of a 2nd hand one? Or one from a written off vehicle on the cheap?

Plan is to carve out a badge shaped recess in the mahogany block. Get it perfect, then sand the block to perfection. Following the sanding, varnish the block with clear coat. 2-3 coats. Then apply badge to finish.

Something like this, but on a wooden block:


Any sources/pointers would be appreciated.

You could pay some scrote £40 to poger one off a bonnet ?

I'd never even dream of getting someone to nick one or getting a stolen one.
Would hate to think the damage it would do to the bonnet! Also the aggro for the owner of the vehicle.

Not an option.

Over £600 in respray costs. I now have a vinyl badge instead, along with CCTV footage of the herbert who pinched the original one.

simply buy a Porsche key ring, the metal Porsche crest is included. With a little DIY skills they are easily mounted on to wood. I did this a couple of years ago when I mounted a Porsche camshaft on a marble plinth with Mahogany supports.

Bit of A bump, but thought I'd post up a picture of the end result...

Decided to keep the paperweight 'flat' instead of tall in the end.
Kept a 20mm overlap of wood around the badge, following the shape of the crest.

Initially I chiseled out a recess to put the badge into, but it looked too flat and didn't stand out much from the wood.

Started again and didn't bother with chiseling out a recess, but placed the badge on top instead. Looked good, so I sanded the piece to within an inch of it's life, clear coat 4 times, fine sanding in between coats and finally stuck the badge into position with a bit of silicone:




Thoughts?

Unfortunately the newer badges aren't a patch on the ones they replaced. I have one just like that on my 2010 Turbo, whereas my 2006 Turbo had a lovely embossed/textured finish with high quality enameling. These new badged are quite flat and dull by comparison, such a shame, and must only save a few $$ at cost.

I know what you mean. It really doesn't do the badge any justice in the new flat style. The textured versions were much better.

This came up on Ebay fairly cheap from a broken Cayenne. Better than nothing I guess!

Had to grind off the mounting lugs behind the badge.
Slightly warped the badge in the process due to the heat generated when using the grinder! It isn't hugely noticeable though. I can live with it.

Sorry to appear a little negative, but I am not sure that the old dark wood thing works with the modern Porsche feel?

I know that you said that you have shop and equipment to do this, so good on you to utilise this stuff.

I have a load of Porsche bits that I want to get mounted and use on display, but for some reason the whole `wood thing` puts me off.

Totally understand what you mean.

It would look great mounted on a bit of nicely finished metal, or even a good coloured granite. Just don't have access to the material or tools to do it though

Have to agree ..your original concept on a plinth as shown looks very professional as does the MB one ...but the wooden one looks very amateurish like ...sorry
