Looks like all my bikes are in the garage now....

I took the roadie in and the guy in the shop said the cables were a possible reason for the sticky shifts. However he also said my cassette looked a little worn so I'm changing that over and adding a new chain.

So....questions.... smile

I currently have a 12-28 cassette (105!?!?!?), which I'll be switching to a 11-28. Hopefully this'll give me a little extra speed on the downhill sections.

However as I need to change the chain, should I add an Ultegra or DuraAce chain? What's the difference between the two other than 12 grams (or a fart). Will one last longer than the other? Is one more efficient? Price difference is just €10 so I'm thinking what the heck unless the Ultegra is a little harder wearing for some bizarre reason.

At the same time, I've got to take the MTB in.... frown

New chain rings, new chain and a general service of all parts. Ideally I need to replace the seals on my fox forks and rear shock too as the bike is now 7 years old (Stumpjumper FSR), and you can tell they're not quite as silky smooth as before. Is this home-serviceable or am I taking a bit of a gamble on it?

Second this although if you do, plop for a set of the pliers too as the quick link is a beehatch to get off without them.

I've got the SL chain (in gold) on all my bikes, utterly flawless performance.

wobble I'm all for quality but it's 2.5x the cost of the Shimano chain!!!

£70 as opposed to £28!

On that note, I've ordered the Dura Ace chain and see how I get on....

KMC chains are 20 quid what are you on about? You also don't need the pliars, its easy to get them apart by hand if you do it right!

I use the SRAM 990 chains; cheap from Merlin and last well.

As above, KMC X10 does the job and if you can't break it by hand then just use some standard needle-nose pliers smile

Out of interest, is the chain wear tool a reliable indicator for chain wear and when to replace. My 105 chain is currently somewhere between the 0.5 and 0.75 indicator. Time to change it?

buy cheap Sram chains , Something like a 1051 , and replace it more often. This will result in a better performance all round . Once a bike has been through some rain and st 'a chains a chain' .
