So, have a few weeks to dedicate to unplugging from society a bit..

Plan A was to cycle a lap of iceland, and sightsee some on the way. Pretty happy camping and the like and mechanically self sufficient, can rebuild my own wheels etc. However.. I'm kinda going off the idea due to:
a) logistics - will need to buy a bike box and find somewhere to store it near the airport, plus fly everything.
b) practicality - the most suitable bike I have is a carbon roadie. So that means going rather minimal / bodging the kit onto it (i.e. lightweight tent, down bag, cooking stuff, minimal clothing and buying food as I go). Not done it before, and I'm starting to think iceland might be a bit of a harsh place to try it out for the first time - if I get it wrong it's a pretty empty place.

So I'm kinda trying to come up with a plan B. Anyone here got any recommendations - if I didn't have to fly to get there, that would make life a heap easier. Ideally a bit remote but with escape options. Fancy col bagging, but not campsites full of folks, also half contemplating lejog or something.
