I went riding in chamonix last weekend and I'm sick of bike wheels just going pop. I took an absolutely minor fall at 2/3mph over the handle bars and the rear wheel just bent beyond use.

I have some sort of on one 26er wheels on it at the moment.

Budget? Stans Flow EX are very popular and strong. You can get them with Hope hubs for about £300. Tubeless too.

Yup...hand built wheels all the way.

OP I am having trouble imagining what happened at 2-3 mph that launched you over the handlebars and resulted in a knackered rear wheel!

It was one of those "not concentrating" moments and this was why I was so pissed off at buckling the thing.... Completely unjustifiable bending :-(

Budget is £150.

I've got a sale ad on bike radar for some cross max sx's... They are all mountain wheels, and pretty bomb proof ime. If I was building a light ish all mountain bike again, they would be my first choice!

http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40...

Edit to add- was actually going to change the pricing on them today to 150 too.. Feel free to pm if your interested! (Oh and can post too)

I think I'm going to just pop to the bike shop and ask them to use the hub and by a new rim and spokes and get them to make it up for me.

You'll want to have the same rim front and back or it will make the handling 'funny' or at least the same width.

Not sure what type of riding you do, but all 'All-mountain' toughness you can't beat Mavic EN521 rims, Superstar sell a hand-built set with their own-brand Hubs (which are themselves rebranded Novatec hub which are really good) for a little over your budget.
