Toying with the idea of buying a Ghibli II to upgrade from a 430 biturbo.... any of you fellow PH'ers got any good buying advice on these or is there anything specifically to look for?
Any experiences, anecdotes, warnings or advice gratefully received....

Given that the Ghibli has such a high power output per litre, it would make sense to insist on a recent rolling road report to:
a. ensure that it was delivering its rated output
b. was in a good state of tune regarding mixture and emissions

Also- check that there's oil in the diff !!!

Find a good candidate and then get McGrath to do their 2 hour £100 thing.

Good luck
Ian

PS Does this mean a 430 Biturbo is for sale???

Thanks for that, i was thinking of taking any i found to McGraths for a check up anyway - i hear pretty good things of them (unless anyone knows a better place in the Thames Valley).
I appreciate that Ghiblis are pretty scarce - research suggests they only imported just over 150. Has anyone here ever owned one and give an account of what they are like?

only know there were 25 or so cups imported, and several have been written off.

There is an EVO buyers guide (I'll try an look it out).
Also worth emailing Lord Metcalfe at EVO - I had a very nice email correpsondance with him when thinking of buying a ghibli cup a few years back - he saved me from buying a complete dog that cost the eventual purchaser over 15k i a year of ownership. (allegedly...)

Thanks for the reply Marki, so you have actually owned one, thats great! Did you enjoy it? What was it like as a car - quick and useable or over-powered and scary .... would really appreciate any of your experiences.

Are we sitting comfortably then i will begin .

I brought her new in 97 it was a 2:8 Gt not the Cup
i ran it for 55,000-Km , servicing can be
(what i consider ) expensive i guess it never got though a service for less than 500- Quid often it was more like 1,000- and up to 1,500- i never had a major problem and was never left at the side of the road.

It was a bit light on the back end , a very nice motorway car and the cornering was always fun

One thing to watch is that they are very low at the front , not just the front spoiler , the oil cooler and the cat box just aft of the engine , i once had it valet parked at a hotel i warned the driver it was low but he managed to rip open the box , 4,500- pounds thank you , the hotel insurance picked up that Baby

It was a good car , i had a lot of fun with her but it did often have minor niggles .

I tell you what i know a Ex Maserati dealer who has to this day a brand new unregisterd Ghibli Cup its been sitting there since 97 !!! red black leather its a real beauty .

forgot to say power delivery is a bit crude when the boost hits it can be a bit sudden

Thank you Marki, i had heard they were very low on the front. So they are pretty waggy on the back end. Not surprising considering. Are they controllably waggy or does that turbo and short wheelbase require lightning reactions?
What sort of niggly problems were you experiencing? I assume it is the normal sort of Italian items, bulbs, broken trim, misreading gauges etc. oh and rust!! Overall though a good fun and prestigious beastie that you dont see around very much? Really appreciate you taking the time to reply. Thank you.

edited to add: did yours have the switchable suspension and was it any good?
