Well after quite a bit of research (and lurking on here!) I've just been down and ordered my first proper bike hehe

Long story short, I've given up running as my knee is playing up again and after recent physio to fix it, I'm not willing to carry on and wreck it. So with that in mind, plus the opportunity to commute on the bike 1-2 times per week and to get out and about with the kids, I've ordered a 2013 Specialized Crosstrail Sport Disc:

I managed to get a good deal on the bike and all the accessories and I pick it up Tuesday. Very much looking forward to it, I've downloaded Strava and can't wait to get out there! I've also got a little saddle bag to be filled full of essentials like spear tube and tools and have also ordered a small pump, cage and bottle, helmet and some decent shorts. Have I forgotten anything or is that good enough to start out?

The next thing is to decide on a Hybrid for my wife, something around £300-£400 would be ideal if anyone has any recommendations?

Make sure you include a bike specific multi-tool (with chain splitter) in that saddlebag. Also make sure you have either a traditional or a pre-glued patch kit (in case of a second puncture when you've used the spare tube) and buy a couple of KMC 'missing links' (other brands are available) http://www.google.co.uk/search?source=lnms&tbm...

Chuck in a couple of cable ties and a small roll of sparkies' tape and you'll fix just about anything. Even if you can't do the repair yourself, if you've got all those bits to hand, you might get lucky and someone more knowledgeable will stop to help.
