Sorry to anyone who got held up around rush hour on the A41 near Tring earlier this evening.

My P38 decided to self destruct in a blaze of glory. Luckily I got everyone out in time although not so lucky with our 'stuff'.

I have no doubt the resulting road closure caused chaos so apologies to anyone delayed.

Glad you are ok,and sorry to hear the loss of your P38.

I was sat at home and could hear all the sirens. Slightly worried as the wife was on her way home, up the a41 at the time.

I could see the smoke column from my house, and Im up by the school.

Thanks.

Was an impressive fire, nothing left of the car afterwards!

To rub salt in the wound a few bits turned up yesterday - new key fob and new UJs for the propshafts!

We were only a couple of miles from home and although I'm glad it didn't go up outside our house I wish it had decided to do it somewhere a bit more convenient than a dc!

Glad all were safe, we were about number 4 in the queue behind a police car that slowed the traffic down to a halt on Friday evening.

We were thankful that nobody was hurt!

You must have been able to see her burn then from there I guess, although the police did stop you all quite far back.

I felt so guilty for causing a traffic queue on a Friday rush hour which apparently backed up past the services in no time.

When they re-opened the road this cheeky guy in a little silver car dodged round the police blockage and road closure signs and managed to get down the slip road. He was lucky there was only one police car present...

Must have looked strange to passers by - I had already got my OH and son away from the incident in a passing car to get them away from the heat/fumes/danger. I still had his wheelchair buggy and a bulk pack of toilet rolls from costco that I managed to save, so was stood on the side of the dual carriageway alone with a wheelchair loaded with toilet rolls...

We were round the bend and unable to see anything apart from the plumes of black smoke, and the 4 fire engines that shot passed us, which was probably for the best.
I wouldn't worry about the hold up for motorists, the emergency services were excellent, we were only held up for 15-20 mins.
Given the choice, it was not the worst place for it to happen, your garage, Costco car park, they'd of been a bit scarier.
Any idea what caused the fire?
