hi to all. I've been reading an old thread about the commute into southampton from the west of the new forest.

does anyone know what it is like from christchurch , and how long it is likely to take to drive innate morning ?

I used to do this commute on the train which as easy.

Depending on whereabouts you need to get to in Southampton, for driving budget an hour but expect to do it in 45 mins or so in the rush hour.

Train was cost effective especially if you can buy a season ticket and would otherwise have to pay for parking in Southampton town centre. Train through the new forest early morning with a coffee and paper was a lot more relaxing than driving it.

in the mornings will be fine, getting through lyndhurst can be hectic though in the afternoons, an hour queue today from the M27 into Lyndhurst

thanks for the replies. I went down to christchurch to check the area out on the weekend. the whole area was pretty snarled up traffic wise . I think I will look up the west side of the new forest for something a bit calmer. Ringwood perhaps.

First weekend of the Summer Holidays and decent weather wise - most places down here become snarled up.

Southampton... always snarled up, period. Hateful, hateful city with more traffic lights than you can shake a stick at.

Traffic is bad I tend to always come down the M271 and along the sea front rather than bothering with the avenue and all that ste

You want to try living on the Avenue and getting out onto that road, you'd think you had just slaughtered their firstborn, the looks most commuters give you!!
