We are driving to Tuscany and will do the drive from essex in two days, I will take the route through the Mont Blanc tunnel past Geneve and bourg en bresse. I understand this may not be the most interesting route but I just want to get to tuscany quickly- for those that have been you will u deist and the tuscany roads are akin to a Corsica special stage smile

I also don't really want to drive through Switzerland as I have done it before and would rather not watch the speedo all the time.

So with regard to stopping bourg en bresse is about halfway so I reckon we will stop around there, however is it wise to not book somewhere and just turn up at any old hotel/motel and try and get a room? I'd rather not book because if I feel tired and want to stop I can or if I just want to soldier through I can go further.

I think essex to tuscany in one hit would be a bit brave, though the other half is insured and up for doing some of the driving so that could help cover some ground quickly.

Anyone done that before? Will I end up sleeping in the boot of the Tuscan hehe

Just wing it. There are loads of hotels, you'll have no issues finding a room.

Just what I wanted to hear, I assume best bet is just pull one off the sat nav and stop there?

Hôtel et Golf du Gouverneur near Lyon

Fantastic food.

I did it with the folks a few years back leaving from Lake Garda, then to the hotel then the following day heading to Bastonge do have a look round the town and also the area as I'm really interested in WWII history.

or if you can make it to Mont Blanc then the Auberge De La Maison in Courmayeur on the Italian side is a lovely place aswell.
