Chaps,

The subject of message content has come up a few times recently and I've tried to maintain my distance from dictating what is discussed here.

I'm getting an increasing number of people suggesting that the Gassing Station is losing its original attraction which was discussion with intelligent humour etc. The more Viz style humour does make me chuckle but there's too much of it.

So, I'll be closing a few threads, pissing a lot of people off and trying to return to the previously high standards of gassing that set the Gassing Station apart from other forums on the web.

If you don't like it tough. The GS is/was successful because it was different. I shall be striving to maintain that difference. Be warned and be prepared for whinging to be ignored

I thought it had been a pretty good and humourous week. I'm all for the "serious" forums and threads but had thought that "general gassing" was the right place for the humourous shite. If I've got it wrong goodnight.

LOL, fair enough Ted it is your gig after all !

Suspect I possibly may be one of the culprits so no offence will be taken here although I can't promise that my mind won't stay in the gutter!

Awwwwwwwh Dont sulk Mel!! We can still keep it humourous, just not quite so gutteral (sp).

Got to say tho, its been real fun this week - had me laffing no end of times, in between the serious stuff. Just hope we don't end up with excessive censorship - that'd be quite sad. There are times when a bit of toilet humour can serve to lighten things up, get a few smiles raised then back to the serious stuff. Still my fave site tho.

I've enjoyed the more 'on the limit' banter, but I can understand Ted's point.

The odd witty (and earthy) comment in amongst the usual banter can be very effective... although the (camel toe - can I still say it here?) bit was a touch OTT.

Has anyone polished their trunnions recently?

Pants, poo, bottom and scrotum....

Still, fair comment as it was getting a little too low. Worth a good laugh though. Anyone got anything serious to post?

Cheers,

Fair enough I guess. I have noticed the level decending over the last few months, much like my work environment. We all seem to encourage each other to degenerate. I'm sure we can cut out the alternative words for hairy goblet and just concentrate on horses, numpties and...er....cars.

Ted, why not have a separate thread, 'Guttural Gassing' for instance?, or 'CarZee's Corner' now I think of it

I did consider it but I'd rather the whole place was operating at the same level.

O.K. whinging aside (to be ignored ) the Bi-Curious thread was topical.. about the cruise mentality.. and 116 posts long.. In all I think there were about 3-4 posts in there that sailed a little close to the mark, but as a whole I personally thought it was fine.. wouldn't it be better to deploy the "Binned" sticker that we used to have, rather than just close the thread...?? I know we'd wandered off onto the costs of weddings, but as said, I don't think that was soo contraversial

Of course as stated, this is your "bag" but it just seemed a shame to kill of a lively posting session...

How about a special place where we can get a list of all the closed topics? This will help those of us too busy to gas all day to know where to go for a giggle... I esp liked the VBH thought train, btw.

It's a tricky line to walk, moderating a website - but you lot must know what is acceptable, vs not. The odd bit of toilet humour is witty, but massive long threads, egging eachother on is not witty to some elements of the audience. It would be a shame to lose anyone over it, but Ted is only preserving the integrity of the site and you should respect that. Hey, and this is coming from me, maybe I'm an "old" 34, but if I want to find dodgy material, there are plenty of places to find it, without the need to find it on a quality motoring site.

Things always seem pretty free speaking here, so why spoil what there is?

How about some online moderators.. I for one would have closed the VBH thread at the point where I posted "I see a Topic Closed looming".. Dull I know, but I felt that thread really was plumbing depths...

At last, the voice of reason.
I note you had addressed this to the Chaps. I think you guys tend to forget that there are women who read Gassing Station and recently it has become more difficult to find a thread on here which doesn't offend.

You are right, previously the standards were high. Good luck in trying to return to those high standards.

Thanks Sue. I do appreciate there are female readers here too.

As for moderators, I do have moderators who are doing a sterling job of removing the completely unacceptable whilst staying in the background generally.

Now, let's get back to the Gassing instead of talking about the Gassing

Some of the more offensive posts had been deleted rather than 'stickered' - more than 3 or 4.

Personally, I found the thread re the disabled offensive and we must bear in mind some of the members are female and I don't think they should be tatgeted with some of the comments / remarks made over the past few days.

Cheers,
JSG.
