My Tuscan seems to have a different stereo housing to the norm.
Been to various audio shops and no one seems to know how to get the stereo out.

The casing fascia seems to be bonded permanently to the housing.
After investigating, I have noticed a bolt screw that sits underneath the housing going downwards through into the center tunnel.

Does anybody else have this sort of setup or is it that the previous owner had a custom casing made up.
Stereo is not working and I'd like to change it without having to replace the stereo casing.

Here's a picture of the housing & fascia.

Thanks

Hi,

remove the front panel of the radio and use the factory Tool to pull it out...thats the normal way to remove.
where are your Door opening buttons?

The problem is that the front is bonded to the casing.
It feels as if the whole casing is 1 unit and has to be totally removed to access the stereo.

The door opener on my car is activated by the pressing down the side window controls.

You might find even if you remove the housing the stereo is still stuck inside it - as said above usually you just take off the fascia and then use the "stereo removal tool" (I just wedged a screwdriver down the side to get mine out) to pull it out. Usually the stereo has barbs at diagonals that prevent it being pulled out forward but I guess if the back of the stereo is big enough to pull the stereo INCLUDING the fascia out then maybe that is a way you can go about it. If the fascia is bigger than the stereo housing (hard to tell from the pic) and the fascia cannot be removed - I don't think you've got much in the way of options beyond taking the housing off including stereo and then sawing the front off (or similar) to allow you to remove the stereo =/

This must be one of the early Mk1.
Also interesting what else different is mounted, specially on engine side!

They all had this mounting originally but after a while a few of them popped the doors when going along. TVR came up with the revised housing with the buttons on the stereo housing and fitted it when they went in for service to keep everyone happy. The same thing happened to the clip that holds the front of the roof down after a few were lost on roadtests by journalists at high speed.

I'd guess that it is glued in somehow and you might need to break the seal, but never seen one exactly the same as that one. You can lift the top of the dash off, two screws one in each corner if you want to see the back of the housing.

What is the radio number, I might have some info.

Hi

I have the same one. You have to take the whole thing off by undoing the bolt underneath the dash (remove the cover over the gearbox tunnel with the heater and door knobs). It is either a 15mm or 17mm nut. Then When the whole pod is off remove the 2 bolts in the back of the pod and the stereo slides out. The 2 bolts run the length of the stereo.

Hope this makes sense been at a party this afternoon beer.

Cheers

Thanks for this. This is what the Halford's guy thought too.
There's 2 screws (either end) at the back.
Who's clever idea @ TVR was it to make it like this? Worst than the battery location.
I guess the one good point is it makes the stereo virtually impossible to steal.

Sheeshh!!!!

I'll get the number of the part and post it in the morning.
