Alright fellas - a group of us are setting off to Wales on the August Bank Holiday for a couple of days. I've planned it out so our base is Llandrindod Wells, we are staying at the metropole hotel which I've been told is great spot for car fanatics.

On the saturday we are driving around Snowdonia and hopefully pembrokeshire. In the evening going go-karting and ending the day with drinks!

Sunday we plan to wake up early and drive through the Breacon Beacons, I also wanted to go to Pendine Sands. I wanted to know if anyone has done this before? Do we have to register or can we rock up and just go on the sand?

Seeing as this is our first road trip I wanted to do it properly. Are there any routes that anyone would suggest visiting, obviously evo triangle is a nice route but may be out of the way. We are coming from London (M25 J26) - any roads worth driving through.

Also, is there are any necessary things we should bring - breakdown cover, new rubber and pads, oil and wiper fluid. Anything else?

Really looking forward to this. If anyone would like to join us we'd be happy to meet more car nuts!

Don't speed (on the A roads at least). It was a total pain in the butt getting a lift all the way to Llandrindod Wells to be there 1 hour to be banned from driving for speeding.

They are very hot at times there. Have a good time though and just be aware :-)

Thanks, I've heard they're quite sneaky about where they place the cameras. Hopefully should be quite free on the roads.

A0469 is worth a detour on your way to Pembrokshire, Black Mountain pass is great.

Wouldn't bother with Pendine Sands. Nice LSR museum but can't drive on the sands anymore (or couldn't when I was there the other year) all MOD now.

Ah, well we are going to Black Rock Sands - heard about Pendine which is a bit annoying.

Already doing A4069 for Breacon. Wish I could do Black Mountains but Snowdonian roads and Llanberis Pass! You're more than welcome to join if you'd like.

Apropos of nothing the Metropole's gone up in the World, hasn't it - I remember staying there some (OK many) years ago and it was as reminiscent of Colditz on the inside as it was out.
