Always seemed pretty expensive for what seems a pretty straightforward mod so I'm surprised the price hasn't come down for it. http://www.surfaceanddesign.com/page9.html - so just over £800

Thanks for the answer but clearly at that price it's strictly for people with too much money biggrin

It's after you can lift your bonnet you really start spending smile . You spend too much time counting beans.

I did mine myself, lots of posts on here-flippin bonnet, bonnet mods etc. I have got mine lifting together all I use is 2 catches by windscreen to secure bonnet. Find B3NNL or MrChips posts to see how they did it and for parts required, cost me about £120 for all parts-struts, nuts & bolts etc. Didn't do any extra fibreglassing and bonnet opens with out flexing. Took about a day with just swmbo helping to lift bonnet on and off. [used MrChips hinges, not sure if he still can supply them]

Did you need to cut much off the bonnet to get MrChips hinges to fit? I have a set but haven't got the nerve to fit them yet.

I also did mine with Mr Chips hinges and a mate to help manhandle the thing. Glow Worm is right the conversion kit is relatively cheap but then comes the new hoses, painted rocker cover, endless polishing (still not finished!) and have since added alloy caps for water oil and steering fluid - not cheap!

NevM3 - interested to hear that you only have to use the catches up by the windscreen to secure your bonnet. I still have to bolt down the service bonnet above the front wheels as before otherwise it flaps about all over the place. Have you secured the service bonnet to the main bonnet somehow?

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... Yes sorry didn't make myself clear, service bonnet still attached as normal except top mounts of service bonnet now attached to main bonnet[will try and get pictures up]. No didn't have to cut much away, mainly just the front mounting points where bonnet bolts to chassis, in fact cut more than I needed to but service bonnet hides it all, most important part of fitting MrChips hinges is to make up slave mount with piece of wood as described in his posting on subject. It is a bit daunting to start with but just treble check everything and take your time.Only other point is make sure you fit gas struts down at front of bonnet, if you fit them further up restricts access and sort of defeats object of the exercise. Not sure if link will work, hopefully does and will give you a good idea of how its all done.

Peter Bemm's hinges (made and supplied by Mr Chipssmile .

Alternatively ring Heath @Xworks he's doing it with rose couplings somewhat cheaper than my design at S&D.

Oh, Oh...Is this another excuse for me to post about my bonnet conversion?

Go on then, just this once

Linky

Ended up putting a small bolt through the side of the service bonnet to the main one at each side to secure them both together.
There was talk of my wingman and I doing this for people, but unfortunately he's gone off radar so I was never able to carry it out. More than happy to offer advice though.

Thanks NevM3 - I am really interested to see how you have attached the two bonnets together as it is still a bit of a PITA having to lock down the service bonnet each time.

Can you also confirm whether you have completely removed the two retaining threaded bolts that are set into each front wheel arch to secure the service bonnet to?

Cheers
