RIAT Check in ...
Discussion
I am at RIAT from tomorrow - working - however i am 'air-side' again with an unrestricted view of the runway so should make for some spectactular sights.
However if all i see all week is XH558 then, frankly, i will be happy.
As far as i am concerned everything else, apart from the Red Arrows, is relatively insignificant.
Had a great view of her arrival at RIAT last year - was almost on the runway as she lumbered into view a few miles from the airfield - so watched her on finals as she dropped down into Fairford.
That was my first ever view of 558 in the air. Awesome.
Looking forward to the weekend - shutter speeds? Who cares? I just point my Nikon & hit the shutter button.
i dont have the time to fanny about with settings. Life is too short.....

I'm not going but sure it will be a good day out
I'd use 1/160th or 1/250 maximum and pan.

Ill be there working with BBMF come and say hi. Although not looking forward to the heat in a black flying suit!
I worked there in 1989 on our Tornados, was not fun at all. I think it pushed well north of 30 that year, with a death attributed to a heat induced heart attack in the crowd and the St. Johns ambulance people kept very busy.Luckily once the display was done we could put the aircraft to bed and strip off.

Its a touch on the warm side here at Fairford this afternoon....
No need to worry too much about the lack of USAF this year!!! Plenty too keep you occupied.
558 is due in at around 5.30pm on Friday afternoon. That's really all you need to know - apart from the times of her take off!!!!

Just got my purple route parking through (thanks MOD !). Tickets in the Pimms Enclosure on Sunday with the two boys and 558 will be parked right up close. Well worth flying home from Singapore tomorrow - via Lord's of course to catch Day 2 ! RIAT booked as I thought it would be 558's last year and never seen her 'live'. Tiv serviced, fettled, MOT'ed as well so it's going to be an epic weekend - weather looking good too !
