Extremely low flying Hercules...

Just got off the train at Long Buckby, and can only describe the experience as being "buzzed" the aircraft was so low.

A lot of people in the car park ducked as it came overhead, heading towards Northampton and following the railway line.

I don't ever recall seeing an aircraft so low unless on takeoff/landing. I'd suggest 100-200ft, although it felt like 30ft!

I assume it was a Hercules - cargo aircraft, army green and with 4 props.

No explosion, but I can only assume it was landing in a field... any of the PH plane gurus able to explain?

Most likely wrong, but we used to get them around our village- nr stony Stratford/a5 and I vaguely remember someone claiming they were used as some form of calibration flight for hanslope park.

Most likely a C130 doing tactical low level flying, or possibly a practise approach for an emergency landing from which they would've overshot. Bit unusual but not unheard of.
Chances are it was nowhere near as low as it looked. They never are.

Its only REALLY low if you can touch the tail gate with your head whilst stood on the roof of a 4 Tonner.....

Did this really happen, seen it on various forums (Forii?) but could never really tell if it was true or not..

We get C17's doing low approach runs here in Guernsey from time to time. They will look as though they are going to land, then abort & give it full beans at the last minute, then go around & do the same again.

Scared the crap out of me when it first happened, but amazing to watch something that size climb under power.
