Indicated 80 on cruise - you'll crack 30 no problem.

Mollie had a heavy right foot :-)

Based on a couple of trips to Romania and back in a 2.7, very late 20s on the autoroute/bahn/strada if you can get a steady 130-135kph. On the up side, it doesn't drop much below early 20s on unrestricted autobahns unless you get enough room for well over 220kph...

I'd agree with this. Just back from a Euro trip including Italy and the 911 showed 28.9 over 2000 miles. That includes some very high speed stuff through Germany on the unrestricted bits. PDK top gear helps.

Blimey how technology hasn't moved on. Heading through Spain last year at or around 80 on the autoroute (or whatever they call it) with no cruise and a bit of hooning, I averaged 28 in my old oil burner.

Am I the only person who'd be tempted to take the Volvo convertable oil burner?

More comfortable - check
Roof off - check
More economical - check
Miles on the wifes car rather than mine - check

I'll get my coat.

In fact the best thing to do is not own a Porsche at all, then you'll save loads of money, in fact why not sell the Volvo too and just stay at home and watch eastenders! Hang on what am I saying? Sack of the tv and stare at the wall and that's another £150 tv license money in your sky rocket LOL

All good points, but I think most people would still take the Porsche. What is the point in owning one if you use another car for a journy like this?

In answer to the original question, I find that I have to stick to 70 if I want to average 30 mpg. At 80, I'd be down in the late 20s, but mine is a 3.2S with no cruise control, so it may just about be possible in thw 2.7.

I did 700 odd miles accross France in my 987.2 box s. averaged 75ish on the way out send rather more on the way back(late for train...). 33 mpg on the computer. Dfi engine helps but I'm guessing cayman is more slippery than boxster

At 80 the whole way you can expect to be overtaken lots and for it to be a very very boring slog

Got an indicated 29.9 across Europe on a Turbo, over 2000 miles.

Mostly within limits but obviously a heavy foot in places/times, and fair bit of fun on the Route Napoleon.

I just got a 2.7 Boxster courtesy car and over 150 miles on M3/M25 with an hour in traffic jam this morning and managed 33mpg. I wasn't going slow or economically by any means. Keeping up with the traffic and a bit more!!

Bit blooming noisy though especially road noise on 20" wheels.

cruise at 80 in my PDK 3.4S regularly sees just over 30 so should be viable in a 2.7
