New wing mirrors, wheel cleaner and some other bits...
Discussion
As some of you know my S2 spent the winter hibernating in deepest darkest Weston Super Mare where Mr Plow spent many many long evenings working his magic.
It all started as we left the Chunnel in Calais at the start of last years S Club Euro Tour... Over the previous couple of months both of my doors had become more reluctant to close properly. As I went round the first roundabout in France the passenger door flew open. Because my car is fitted with harnesses my passenger could not reach the door - until I cornered the other way and the door came back to him. Mr Plow was behind us and as soon as we stopped he offered to sort the door hinges over the winter - apparently he likes a "project"!
The list of "little" jobs kind of grew over the next couple of months until I dropped the car off in November; while the doors are off might as well sort out the windows so they go up and down like they should do, remount the speakers better and (something I'd been meaning to do since getting the car 5 years earlier) change the wing mirrors.
The speedo surround needed repainting. I'd have touched it up with a tin of model paint but Mr Plow being Mr Plow removed it, rubbed it down, primed it and painted it. Properly. And also did the rev counter so they matched perfectly.
I'd already had one of the rear bumper chrome strips replaced but now the other was looking tatty. Mr Plow decided to do both so they matched perfectly.
The pedals were too close together for my size 13s. The windscreen needed resealing. The hood seals needed refixing. The gear knob rattled. There was a tiny leak in the boot where the strut joins the body. The manifold was blowing (apparently!). A buzzer to remind when I'd left the lights on would be good. And, I needed extra power sockets so I could run a sat nav and video camera at the same time when "on tour", plus a cable for an external mic hardwired into the boot would be handy. Oh, and finally, the chassis needed wax oiling (although I wasn't expecting that to be done).
One very cold winter later and I collected the car with ALL of the above jobs done. Plus some sections of the chassis had been replaced which Mr Plow managed break while poking around with his screw driver pre-wax oiling!
And thanks to those of you who joined in our endless email debate on which mirrors to get. To me they improve the look of the whole car. In the end I'm really pleased I was encouraged to go with these http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/mirrors/v...

While driving the car home I went through a couple of heavy showers so sensibly put the lights on. By the time I got home it was fine. I nearly
myself when I opened the door and the buzzer I'd forgotten I asked for went off to tell me the lights were still on!
I am absolutely delighted with everything Liam has done, brilliant job, thanks again mate

Don't worry Tinks, I think I'll be paying for a very l o n g time!!
Forgot to add that when waxoiling the chassis "we" discovered the engine mounts were worn out. Which meant the engine had dropped onto the anti roll bar which meant there was a hole in the sump.... Well, I think that's right! I'm not sure really cos I don't really get involved in that area of the car. However I DO love my new wing mirrors

I'm hoping to book mine in this winter - now Liam's practiced on this old banger, re-glassing my door hinges will be a doddle for him.
Plus anything else he spots - certainly a hard wired mic near the exhaust & a couple of 12v sockets (I have a design in mind).
I'll work on him during the EuroTour ;-)

The mirrors look really good.
Do they fold up?
Yes. If you look at the bottom photo you'll see a screw facing the front of the car. That allows movement up/down. The mirror glass itself is also fully adjustable.Do they fold up?

How much fettling and modification was required to get them on the car, and repair any damage left by removing the old ones?
The previous mirrors were not standard but the holes looked about the same as the originals. When it's stopped
it down I'll pop out to the shed and measure them. For any other info about fitting them you're better off talking to Mr Plow. My involvement in fitting was to give him a box, next time I saw the mirrors they were on the car

It WILL get worse before it's better Max...

You do NOT want to see what he did to my chassis before "Smelly Kev The Welder" turned up and fixed it

Luckily my chassis has been "RT Racing'd" only a couple of years ago ;-)
