Advice please - driving to Southern Spain...
Discussion
...I am planning to take the newly acquired 996 to Southern Spain (and possibly Morocco) with the wife.
I have never driven in Europe and need advice from anyone who's done such a journey - pros/cons, 98-ron petrol availability, journey times, recommended stopovers on the way, etc.
If I do go, I'll get Sat Nav installed in my car to make sure I don't get lost!
Thanks in advance for any (constructive) input

I drove to Morocco earlier this year in the discovery.
We went the south coast route via Barcelona, and back through Madrid to Bilbao and on the ferry to Portsmouth. Roads are good if windy on the way out, fast and straight through Madrid and up to Bilbao.
I can recommend the ferry home, as it is really too much driving on the way home to flog up through France again.
If you do want to go into Morocco, I can give you lots of details on the ferries between Algeceiras and Ceuta, which is Spain's hypocritical outpost in Africa.
Be wary of taking a sports car into Morocco. The roads are variable, and if you are really blasting you can suddenly come across a bad bit. Most of the interesting areas of Morocco like Marrakech are in the south, so it's a long way from spain.
Don't miss gibraltar before BLiar gives it to the Spaniards. well worth a few days.
as regards routes, try the journey planner on the aa website. take approx 10% off their driving times, but remember that these are driving times not journey times.
there are several threads on what spares to take with you.
Have fun, I'm jealous
