I drove past that just after it happened at about 2, was not a pretty sight. The bloke laying on the floor looked like he had been at a fight in a ketchup factory, a lorry had hit the back corner of one of those protective workforce lorries with the flashy arrows and carried on into the back of a van that was in front of it, was somewhere near where all of the lanes start splitting up. All of the cars on the shoulder looked like they had nothing to do with it, a lot of them looked to be on their way back from the IOW festival.

I heard the lorry driver hit a parked motorway maintence lorry after a bird flew in the cab.

I am not sure how true this is but could explain what caused the lorry driver to panic or swerve.

Wait with baited breath to find out if this is true.

Thoughts with the injured.
