R56 175 & 184 MPG Difference
Discussion
Guys,
Following from my other thread a few weeks back regarding the MPG on the Cooper S 184 version.
Looking around and I’m struggling to find many 184 versions around the £10,000 budget. So wanted to know if anyone has had both the 175 & 184 versions of the MCSS and if the efficiency increase was noticeable between the two versions.
Many Thanks
Paul

Paul, just get any MCS that fits your budget, and get on with enjoying driving it
You'll be getting under 20mpg if you're enjoying it properly, and who cares whether it's 18 or 19 mpg?
Life's too short to not be driving your MCS - you'll kick yourself for wasting all these days thinking about 1 or 2 mpg difference - get driving it

My 184 model returned a 46 mpg average (worked out properly) from its last tank of fuel. I thought that was seriously impressive, considering two thirds of it was my wife pottering about town and the other third was me absolutely thrashing the b

It is odd. My early clubman S usually gets around 42 mpg on the motorway. I have got 50 mpg on the M42 cruising at 60.

Around home (isle of wight), i get around 38mpg.
Usually when i post these results they get shunned. Good to see someone else enjoying the car and getting decent mpg.
One note is i use 1 litre of oil per 900 miles as well!
Mike
We're getting between 41 and 43 now the weather's better and the heated seats aren't getting as much use. That's on a 40 mile round trip with A roads, dual carriageways and 5 miles of London congestion. It's the 184bhp model and uses very little oil.
They're good if you want to conserve fuel - only 5% worse than our last R56 Cooper.

Here is my update in 6 weeks of 07 Reg MCS ownership:
Tank 1 filled up by dealer, fuel unknown, 33.5mpg
Tank 2 Sainsbury's Super, 34mpg
Tank 3 BP Super, 33.3mpg
Tank 4 Sainsbury's Super, 33.8mpg
Tank 4 Tesco Momentum, 35.1mpg
Currently on tank 5 which is Tesco Momentum.
Always driven with sport mode on, all tanks a mixture of fast A road/motorway and pottering about round town.

I own an Aston Martin DB9 and a 184 MCS Cab as a daily driver, I must say I probably enjoy the MCS more in the twisty commute, that said I've averaged only 31.5mpg over quite a few tanks and that is generally on open A-roads and fast B-roads. Sport always on of course.Tank 1 filled up by dealer, fuel unknown, 33.5mpg

I have had my 2010 184 S for a month now - I managed to get lucky with a main dealer bargain - only 13k miles on the clock.
So far, over 1,400 miles it has done 36mpg which includes a lot of back road hooning and around 500 motorway miles. Incredible given the performance and fun factor.
