Tyres to replace fortezza tricomp

Not too much longer until these need changing, been using them for a fee years and generally very happy but not had a massive experience of other tyres. I had a large amount of punctures over Xmas but replaced the tyre and then have been ok since....

Looking at continental gp 4000s tyres for summer and possibly over next winter run some conti gp 4 season tyres or gatorskins.

Thoughts?

Edit - been using the slick tricomp tyres, not the cheaper "normal" versions

For the record I'm quite light, only around 8stone 10lbs or so.

Used Tricomp's for a couple of years and really rate them, only 1 flat in several thousand miles, great ride, great handling, not too bad in terms of dirability.

Tried a few different conti's and never got on with them, lbs has a theory that conti's suit 'heavier' riders.

Used Pro3's, OK but get cut to bits very easily, handled ok but at 110psi gave a very harsh ride, below that I always felt the tyres were very 'draggy'. Apparently Pro4's are better....

Fave tyres for ride, grip, speed are Vittoria Open Corsa CX evo's, but they are not the most durable in the world.

Personally, if the trip-comps work for you stick with them!

Does anyone have any experience of the vredstein fortezza quattro tricomp tyres as a winter tyre? My main concern is puncture protection and have heard generally good things about gatorskins but are there other alternatives? Someone mentioned some continental grand prix 4 seasons...

I have. They were nice, but one of mine developed a split in the sidewall after about 4-5 rides.

If you're looking for winter tyres, then invest in a set of Vittoria Open Paves. Nothing comes close.

Seem expensive but if they're worth it.... Better than the gatorskins etc for puncture protection? May order a pair ready for October/November time.

Almost. That's the 24mm 2012 version. For 2013 they grew 1mm in width, dropped the "Evo" name and moved the coloured bands to the shoulders: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/vittoria-pave-cg-open-clin...

They're OK for puncture protection: not Schwalbe Marathon-like, that's for sure, but I've found them durable enough for the cobbles of Flanders and the wet, pot-holed and crap-strewn roads of Oxfordshire. Over two sets I can only recall one puncture, which came towards the end of the tyres life anyway.

It's all about the quality of the ride and the grip with these things, though. So, so nice

I've reverted back to the Fortezza Tricomps for the CX bike and commuting (25mm of course ). I've forgotten just how good they are. They were less than 1/2 the price of the Vittorias, but in no way, shape or form are they only 1/2 as good. They're lovely, in fact. I suspect the quality of the ride comes from the volume of the tyres, as they're very tall, as well as being one of the wider interpretations of a 25mm tyre.

Well....

Just yesterday in fact i collected 4 new tyres for the bike.

2 x Vredstein Fortezza tricomp slick tyres and 2 x vittoria CG open pave tyres!

the rear on mine is looking quite worn so will change within the next couple of weeks and then change the front when that wears low with the plan of swapping to those vittoria tyres for the winter....i'll probably swap around late October time.
