Rear mech hanger woe

Is it possible to buy rear mech hangers that arent made of a chocolate-based alloy?

I've just put a new one on my bike for the third time in 6 months. The old one one was fine until one day when I must have bent it by lightly brushing the rear mech against something, because all of a sudden the rear gears were out of line... which put the bottom jockey wheel in the spokes when I changed gear.. which ripped the hangar in half. The one before that simply sheared off as I landed a 3ft jump down a flight of stairs.

£10 bloody quid each time for a small piece of metal with 2 holes drilled in it. Honestly, I could probably hand-make one from stock metal for less than that.
So, is there a supply of decently strong ones or will I have to take to carrying a bag of them around with me?

They are kinda soft for a reason. Rather a few quid than a new frame...

There was a company that made stronger ones (BETD maybe?) but they're meant to break.

Consider yourself lucky, the ones on my old Cove were Mag, bent easily and cost £75!

I believe you cn get billet ones for Mountain bikes but they are made of weak metal to save the frame, the fact you will still bugger the wheel and your derallier is assumed to be better than knackering the frame.

Hmmmm I see. So by mounting this bit between the mech and the frame it stops the possibility of breaking mounting lugs off the frame in an impact? Sounds fair enough... apart from the fact that where mine mounts, the frame is massively reinforced anyway!

Or get a alu or steel frame where they are welded on
