5th gear rattle

Hi everyone.

I'm hoping that someone can help. I have a Carrera Crossfire 2 which has suddenly developed a rattle in gears 5, 10 and 15. It is also slow to change into these gears and occasionally won't change into gear 10 at all. Only done 180 miles on the bike since new and I took the rear wheel off to change a puncture. Any ideas?

My subway just had an identical problem last week.
Lbs fixed it for a tenner,something was bent but cant remember what im afraid,derailer maybe?

By rattling do you mean the chain is rubbing against the cage on the front derailleur? If so then sounds like you need to adjust the upper limit screw to push it away from the frame slightly. Plenty of videos on YouTube explaining how to do this.

If by rattling you mean chain is skipping on the rear cassette then it is probably just cable stretch - this is common with new gear cables and you can resolve it by indexing the rear cable. You might have a barrel adjuster on the shifter itself, or otherwise on the rear mech. You just need to twist this an quarter turn at a time until the skipping stops. Again watch one of the many oinkine videos guides. Even the most cack handed person should be able to do this with a little guidance.

Cable stretch?

New bike - just a small adjustment to gears needed. Your brakes can probably be tightened up too, and would be a good time to check everything else (BB, crank, pedals etc) is at tight as it ought to be.
