Replaced all my tyres 4000 miles ago with Bridgestones and had the geometry set up. Now the rears are on the way out but the fronts are fine, is that normal? I'm sure I got about 9000 miles out of the previous lot. Also Bridgestones.

N-rated Bridgestones? Not my experience. The best I've managed is nearly 23K miles out of a set of rears. Would have gotten more but the right rear tire picked up a nail and I had to replace both tires. The tires had road hazard coverage so the right tire was free. I was thinking it would be too worn but even with nearly 23K miles it had 3mm of tread left which was enough to qualify for free replacement.

The worst tire life -- Continental tires -- was around 8K miles when the alignment was out. Way too much rear toe. That eats tires. At other times I've managed nearly as good of tire life from Continental tires as Bridgestone tires.

Hard to imagine how bad the toe must be for the tires to last only 4K miles unless you get the rear tires loose at every opportunity. Did you get a printout of the before and after numbers?

Get new tires and my advice then would be to find another alignment shop.

My last rears (PS2) were about 8-9k, which I'm sure is less than I'd been getting previously. But they had done less "daily driver" miles and more fun miles, which probably explains the difference.

Are the tyres wearing evenly? The inner edges do go first but check to see if the wear is smooth on the tread blocks. If you can feel any kind of 'feathering' to the edges of the blocks it will indicate something's not quite right.

If as you say the geo is done and all good then check for play and wear in the bushes or the rear coffin arms, and the other rear suspension components. I had badly worn bushes in my rear arms and was eating the rears in 2k miles.

Always had Pirellis in the past and would get 5-6K from the rears.
Had PS2's fitted on Friday, so time will tell.
They feel hugely softer than the Pirellis, but maybe that's just due to age hardening of the old Pirellis.

Never have had Pirelli tires on my Turbo but my Boxster came from the factory with Pirelli tires and I ran them for years. Then switched to Michelin tires. Michelin tires were just great.

When the car needed a new set of tires this last time though Michelin tires were not available so I went with Pirelli tires.

I've put some miles on the Pirelli tires and it is coming back to me how they like to harden up as they wear/heat cycle. This was my one big negative with these tires in the past.

However, they did in the past deliver good tire life and this new set seems to be holding up that legacy.

5K to 6K miles is just crazy low miles. To repeat myself I would have to suspect the alignment coupled with the possibility your driving style is partially to blame. I'm sure were I to drive either of my cars in such a way as to break the rear tires loose on either of my cars tire life would plummet.

I'm sure it would and 100K+ miles from a set of brake pads may not be achievable with such a flamboyant driving style either!?
Horses for courses wink

13,000miles from my Continentals.
Track days, euro trips and general driving.
I think it's a great all round tyre for the turbo.

Just swapped my rear Contis. Got 9,000 miles out of the last set. Fairly even wear, possibly a little more on the inside edges. No track days, road use only.

Thanks for all the info. Yes N Rated So2's. fairly spirited driving but you'd have to drive like a lunatic to get the rear unstuck. The few times I've hit ice or slippery surfaces the PSM has just sorted it out in microseconds. I did have an induction leak - dump valves, which kept throwing up ABS/PSM failure lights and I'd have to drive quite a few motorway miles before I could restart the car and reset the PSM. So maybe the old girl was dragging her tail a little?
Tempted to try the Continentals but the fronts are practically brand new and I am uneasy about mixing brands.
