My drivers side rad fan seems dead, fuses OK,swaped relays over, still dead so after reading forums I understand its either a faulty resister attached to the fan or the fan itself. The question is is it difficult to change the fan assembly as i can get from various sources a second unit which would cover those 2 faults for about £35.
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Sounds like the ballast resistor has packed up. I have the same problem with mine right now. Just picked up a new one from Porsche this morning. Was £63 +vat.

Will be fitting it during the week as i couldn't be arsed to do it today.

I have used a wire to by-pass right to the fast speed in the mean time.

resistor is only for half speed, high speed current does not go through resistor.

I had the same thing and it was corrosion of the resistor. Surprisingly easy to swap out, just a bit fiddly to feed the cable round to the terminal.

Did you get to it via the wheel arch once removed? Is it in the plug itself

It is about a ft from the plug to the resistor. Just jack up, remove the liner front of the liner and fiddle it out and in. There is an electrical link to something else (?) that needs to be joined (electrical joins and hot gun required therefore).

Part is :http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt878_880_-cma81-cmo110/Porsche/996--911--1997-05/Water---Coolant-Radiators/

and it looks like:

Otherwise worth having some of the plastic wheel arch plugs as they can split when you remove them. Design 911 prob do them or ask at your local Porsche Centre (always a good sign if they give stuff like that away).
