been keeping an eye on these & the standard 3.6 cars seem to be gently coming down. to be expected obviously but for folks like myself who won't entertain a gen I car due to it's mechanical frailties this is starting to open up a welth of interesting opportunities;

not much mention of the spec in the advert but it's a fine looking machine to these eyes & on a base spec carrera what do you really want? not exactly starship mileage & well under £35k

Indeed, are they mostly problem free or is it simply too early to say?!

back to the topic i have been watching the market for some time post 2010 model year manual coupe cars and they are very thin on the ground and opc site i think only has 5 with lowish miles and imho late build 997.2 in manual form are going to be pretty rare in years to come so to me they make a good long term purchase

i wager it is a 2008(or early car) and with pdk and it has had hose/pump failure!
itsybitsy said:
so what year is it then? i still put my money on early 08 or 58 plate(2008/9 model year) with pdk
itsybitsy said:
but is it an early production model?which like the early 991 have build quality issues hence i always wait 18-24 months into production before i buy a new model!

He expressed surprise as it was his 1st gen2 to show the symptoms, the service manager was pretty shocked by it....

so where does this equal ims failure which the gen2 does not have!
borescoring on 5/6 cylinder due to lockasil bores and uneven coolant displacement which the gen2 has a different bore material closed deck design and a changed cooling system plus add the extra 4 oil pumps.
yes you can get random failures due to build quality, coolant loss or inadequate oil changes which can happen with any car even the mezger gt3 but that doesnt equate to the problems of the m96/7 engine or a problem engine.
the last quote it has not even been determined what is causing the problem and why!
loser

but why?because of poor engine design if so the gt3 that failed is also a poor design?
jog along now and come back in a few years when the internet is awash with gen2 engine failures and i will eat humble pie but for now as it stands gen2 engines are a safe bet up against a gen1 engine and if it was that feeble why is it in the turbo now ?

I am currently looking at Gen 2 cars myself. When looking at the Gen 1 I was only look at the 3.8 S variant so have been looking at the same in the Gen 2 cars for the same reasons. They seem to start at £40k and a good one looks like around £42 ish.

I was talking to a dealer yesterday and he was saying that the Gen 2 cars are harder to find because people havent taken to the 991 too well yet so are keeping hold of their Gen 2 997's. Made sense to me!!

Mmm, not sure about that. It's not good practice to listen to salesmen anyway!

ah smile

it's nice to see the reason i stopped posting too much in here (& not just because i haven't had a 911 in a while) is still reason enough hehe all we need is kayc joining in with his deluded nonsense & we'll be sorted biggrin

in all seriousness lads, no need to resort to name calling, it's an interesting subject enough as it is.

point being, even if these are isolated incidents of bore scoring in the dfi engines it's news to me & perhaps other potential buyers so worth bringing up.

I think there's two premiums on it, one for low mileage & the other for being an authorised used Porsche. The fact it's authorised means of course you get a great warranty for two years & low mileage speaks for itself.

However I missed a 2010 carreraS in paint to sample & highly optioned for less than that by two days mad

To be honest, the Porsche warranty is a good deal sweetener but I find you get absolutely atrocious part exchanges from them as they rarely retail anything none Porsche themselves meaning you always get a paltry trade bid. Depends if you need to part exchange however.

My whole thing about going gen II is mainly as I any be done with being tied into Porsches warranty program-however that might not be as clear cut as I thought following on from this thread.

In my experience of the Gen 2 market the non-S cars have been soft for a while. Add in the fact that manual ones are a bit slow to shift(sorry) and there's potential for a cheap Gen 2.

I don't think the 9A1 lump is anywhere as bad as the previous lumps, but I wouldn't say they are fault-free. I wouldn't gamble on it by not having a Porsche warranty for at least a few more years. Engine problems are clearly still rare, but happen.

That's a pretty depressing indictment of what Porsche have become compared to their past.
