Bus Driving

Hi Guys

As it stands I am working as an IT Technician, however I have been tempted to become a bus driver for Arriva as the hourly rate would be better.

Any thoughts from both sides of the argument?

If you are a bus driver you have limited career progression, in IT you can progress to all sorts of things, but only if you are good at it.

That is true. At the moment though I am at the bottom rung so to speak, I am studying for a A+ qualification, it just concerns me how many are in the IT industry and the amount of competition.

A friend of mine went to a Stagecoach open day to have a go at driving a bus. He realised it wasn't for him very quickly...he said the vibrations ( presumably from the steering wheel) were so bad he couldn't have lasted more than an hour.

You could ask your local bus company if they do trial days to see how you got on.

A modern bus is nicer to drive than many cars , auto gearboxes, nice power steering an absolute doddle, if the steering was vibey then it had a fault.

Its the passengers that are the pain in the ar**

There is pretty much no career progression though , crap money for the rest of your life
