Finally sold my wesfield. Budget for new purchase is 20-25K. Really want a TVR chimp, but am worried that it will keep going wrong. Going to buy from a main dealer. Do I opt for the sensible TT or RB5 which u can run into the ground or take a bit of a risk and get the beast that I have always wanted and adored??? Help please...... I will only be using it evenings and weekends...

They're all very different beasts unfortunately. The only other one I would point out would be the Evo VI instead of the RB5. For outright fun and not to 'boy racer' it would have to be the Chimp! For all round practicality and fun it would have to be the RB5/Evo. The 225 TT is decent, but nowhere near as quick as the other two!

My girlfriend has a TT225, I have a Chimaera. The TT is a nice car, looks great inside and out (hers is pearlescent black). But it's a totally different drive to a TVR. Traction is great (better with ESP off IMHO) and they are easily tunable to 280hp or so (exhaust swap and mild chip). At this point they are near as dammit as fast as a 4.0L Chimaera. 100mph on a motorway in a TT is totally silent (quieter than my new shape A6 commutemobile). 100mph in a TVR is an experience. TT steering is crap, handling is great, but a bit too 'controlled'. You actually get to drive the TVR though. TT pose value = 8/10 (too common if you live in the SE). TVR pose value = 11/10 (am I biased?). Subaru - forget it if you're after something special for the weekend (ooer). Brilliant cars, but not something you're going to cosset like the others. Oh, one more thing. People get out of your way when you're in the TVR, but not in the TT. They probably won't notice the Subaru (mind you, neither will the police). Trefor/. P.S. I had a choice of the TT or the TVR for the 1.5 hour drive to work today since the bird was working at home. The TVR won hands down (and roof down) and thats after driving 600 miles around Wales at the weekend. P.P.S. TVR insurance is cheaper than TT insurance too.

cheers guys.....Like the idea of the EVO but insurance is a bit too much for me as I only have 1 yrs no claims but am 28. TVR is my one desire and might have to just buy it and hope that some of the bad stories you hear are only rumours....

Surely you have already decided, TVR is your one desire you will always regret getting anything else. TVR was my one desire too now it is a reality, and the grin just gets bigger. No other car on the road sounds as good, my favourite is coming off roundabouts in 2nd and flooring it - the roar is awesome especially with the roof down and I find myself laughing out loud, sad eh? I have a 4.0L and its great for running around in no doubt I will upgrade one day but for now I'll just enjoy myself.

Get the Chimaera. You KNOW you WANT IT...Oh...and drive it EVERY day..not just at weekends. Life is too short not to travel with the roof off. Can't say I was as impressed with the TT as other Pistonheads...although its a fine car, no doubt about it. I suppose I was stacking it up against fierce competition though...

Get the Tiv! I had an Impreza before my Griff - I don't regret the change (although the Griff is no longer my everyday car, not planned like that just due to circumstance). BTW a TT would just be too slooooow compared to the Tiv or a Sub!
