Pedal recommendations

Looking for some pedal recommendations for my Whyte 801, use it mainly for road/country park stuff. It came with cages on them which Ive been using but found yesterday that Im better not using them as my feet are too big and arent fitting in fully, thus not getting a proper position on the pedal. So, I can whip the cage off but the standard plastic pedal looks, well gash.
I did look at going for SPDS but not really suitable for me, anyone got some decent suggestions?

I'd suggest SPDs. Why did you think they weren't suitable?

I do a lot of Geocaching (wont bore those that dont know about it), but means jumping on and off the bike at times as well as climbing up bankings etc. which means I need proper shoes on.

Sounds like cyclocross but more sedate, not a problem running spd's, go for something like crank brother candys or mallets and you have the best of both worlds, there are some decent trail shoes out there, that don't look like clown race shoes as well.

as mentioned, Shimano spd pedal with mtb spd shoe. Job done

I have Shimano A530 pedals and Shimano MT43 shoes - perfect for me as I don't always want to ride with cleats (A530's are flat one side, cleat the other) and I sometimes want to walk about while out for a ride (MT43 cleats are recessed)

If they made those with proper pins like a DMR V8 on the flat side, I wouldn't buy anything else for any of my bikes.

Wellgo MG-1 pedals are pretty good - I've been using them for a few years now. Effectively a copy of DMR V12s, if I remember correctly?

O ride xc, and have Dmr v8s, really good and grippy with my ethics riding shoes. But the down side is the pins feel like razors on the front/back of your legs if you do slip. But for 28quid you can't really moan.

Nanos here as well.

V8s lasted me 6 weeks before the bearings went (wife has V12 mags on her bike - they've been going for ages) and they are nowhere near as grippy - smaller platform than the Nanos too

I have a pair that have been on different bikes for over ten years. Still on the original bearings. Dd you grease yours properly?
