Who's been stiffed recently for £800 for a MINOR service on a 997?

When I rang to book, I couldn't believe it for a moment and had to confirm, but apparently it includes brake fluid and a few other things.

Surely they must have changed the frequency of some items because I don't remember a minor being this steep.

Sounds about right to me. I just had that + brake fluid + belt replaced = £1000

An indy servicer will do it for around £200 less.

I'm obviously accustomed to seeing the minor service being a lot less than the major.

They must have made some changes because I can't remember brake fluid and belt being replaced in a minor before.

It is cheaper and it is part of the 40,000 mile minor - add in the usual suggestion of Disks, Pads and new tyres and you are looking at the thin end of £4000!!

Come payment time, is the tube of lube an extra?

Actually, I misled you it is the 6 year service that is the minor with drive belt replacement.

My 997 C2s recently (March) had a Minor Service, Brake Fluid and MOT for the Princely sum of.......
.....wait for it......
......................
.....£362 at Porsche specialist Autostrasse in Essex. This was despite being actually quoted £452 at the time of booking. No, I can't work that out either.
I got a nice full invoice detailing the work they'd done, and no scary 'You should watch / change this' notes besides a mention on the rear tyres which I know about anyway.
The OPC price would've been something scary (despite having one of their cars to thra...I mean use for the day) but my local OPC called me initially to tell me my service was due, gave me a price to which I said, no thanks, got a good offer from an independant (money isn't really the issue, but I see no point in paying more for the same or better work elsewhere)
The OPC called me back 2 days later to say they could offer the same work for only £520. I still turned it down, but it was nice of them to offer such a huge discount.
So, lessons:
Don't take the 1st price an OPC quotes you as gospel.
Assuming you do some research, a good non-OPC Porsche Specialist is a very good thing indeed.

As a recent Porsche owner I find these prices incredible when most of the basic tasks on these cars are so straightforward.

Doesn't take long to build up a bill at OPC labour rates, I guess. Anyone know what those rates are these days?

That's the issue isn't it? I don't know the rate but every time there's significant labour involved the bill becomes monumental once that multiple is applied.

Makes me laugh that OPC recently serviced my 996 for £340 inc brake fluid (because they have reduced their 996 servicing costs).

In reality what is the difference between this and a £800 997 minor service?

So a major, brake fluid, mot, spark plugs and drive belt check for 850 all in at Solihull with 2 mins negotiating isn't bad then.
Don't pay quoted price for anything.

What in particular did they respond-to?

My local OPC quoted one hours labour (£156 inc VAT) to remove and refit the front bumper to clear out a few leaves that have somehow found a way through the motorsport grilles. Perhaps the cost breakdown includes getting the Dyson out of the cupboard ?
My car is booked in for the six year minor service this month.......

Do you mean the drive belts only need to be replaced every 6 yrs?

I just paid £575 at OPC for a major service including brake fluid, and airbag and drive belt check on a 997 Carrera S, with me supplying the oil, Mobil 1 that I purchased 10L for £65.
