For the price there isn't much at all. Only things I can think of for the driving thrills at a similar bidget would be a Caterham/Westfield/Tiger/Robin Hood etc. If spending a bit more then an Elise might tick the boxes (in my view it's a Caterham etc with a bit more bodywork!). I agree with Longers, the only car that would make me sell the S would be a Griff (although I'd be nervous of chucking it around in the same way I do with the S!) but even then I'd try and have both. Realistically for the same kind of money I can't think of anything that fits the bill. Before buying the TVR I looked at various kitcars, Dax Rush, Westfield etc, but to say they are more impractical is an understatement!
I'd like a VX220 turbo (again massively impractical) but half the fun of the S for me is tinkering with it and I don't think I'd be able to do that with a VX220.

Tinkering aside (I'm not very skilled in that area anyway) outside the TVR family I'd say S2000.
I looked at quite a few cars withiin a capped budget before I bought the S3 - MX5 / MR2 mk3 (would need turbo or supercharger adding), Elise / VX220 (funding cap ruled safe examples out at the time), Boxter (maintenance costs too high), Z3 (hmmmm, not a big fan), caterham or similar (not practical enough for me - even less than the MR2!!!). To be honest, the S wasn't on the list and I was heading Jap with the MR2.
In the end it was Chris Gadd who nudged me in the S direction and I'm so pleased he did. Not just the driving dynamics but the ownership experience is great too (in a strictly hetrosexual way).
Within the "family", something different to the Griff and newer (but more money) I'd say a Tamora (cue Norfolk accent jokes about the day after today).

similar 'exotic kit car' to a Tiv, different enough to not be an S2000 (the sensible choice imho). Pistonheads love 'em too
Boxter, S2000, Z3, 350Z/370Z all sort of sanitised, sensible versions all requiring most of the exhaust system to be hacked off to make any noise! but will be better dailys and distance cruisers as well as sunday blasters.

Why "other than a TVR" a Griff would be great, or a nice Chim (they're cheaper LOL) both are awesome cars.
I ran the S and the Chim back to back for 6 months before finally selling the S a couple of weeks back. The S is MUCH more fun "point to point" but the Chim is a better "all rounder" (IMHO of course).
The Nissan 350Z Roadster is a pretty nice car too, stick a straight through pipe on it and you'll be laughing in no time.. ;-0
