New SPD pedals hard to release

Have recently fitted a new set of SPD pedals, but even having wound down the spring tension to the lowest setting they are ridiculously hard to release, taking around twice - if not more, effort to release than my Look road pedals. Do they take some time to wear in or should I be breaking out the sandpaper and giving the cleats a going over?

The pedals are Shimano A600 on mine and PDM324's for the Mrs

They will ease up in time but it wont happen overnight.

If you are struggling then perhaps switch to SM SH56 multi release cleats.

I use them on my winter boots on the roads. I even had a mate who was using them for years without realizing and when he changed shoes and put 51 std cleats on he spent the day falling off his bike every time we stopped. It was only when he looked at his old shoes that he worked it out!

I also fitted them to my 10yr old sons first SPD shoes a few weeks ago when he got his first CX bike. Now he pings out of them while we're riding just because he's a bit of a fidget. I'll have to swap him back onto 51s! That'll stop him!
