Clicking noise...

Hi,
Am getting a clicking noise from the steering of my 2008 Boxster 2.7. It isn't that loud and is most noticeable with the windows shut (i.e. I found it hard to hear when driving the car into the garage). Close the windows up and it is very audible. It happens on both right and left movements of the wheel. I can't say I can overly feel it through the wheel rim either. Under normal driving I don't really notice it.
I had heard this once before at the end of April and for the second time today. The one thing that those days had in common was it was actually warm!! (around 20 degrees) and the car had been out in the sun for most of the day. The last time it happened the temp dropped over night and it never did it again until now.
Anyone any idea what this could be?
