Canterbury Parking Clowns
Discussion
There's more of this sort of anti-parking warden stuff on
www.lawzone.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=84941&d=1&h=175&f=173&dateformat=%o%20%B%20%Y
(if the link doesn't work then www.lawzone.co.uk , page down to Parking Ticket News July 2002.)
Lawzone being a sort of PH for legal types. Can be quite informative and occasionally even funny, well I was amused by this:
"Job Ad for 'Friendly Employee' is 'Not Fair to Unfriendly People'
A firm which tried to advertise for a "friendly" employee has been asked to change its wording because it discriminates against unfriendly people.
Travel Counsellors, which sells holidays and business travel, put in a request for a 'friendly catering manager' to provide food for its staff.
But the Job Centre in Bolton told the managing Director he would have to remove the word 'friendly' before the advert could be accepted.
He says he cannot believe the decision and thinks it is "ridiculous".
He said: We were told we could not have that specification because it was discrimination against people who were unfriendly."
"We thought it was ridiculous, we had to drop it from the advert. They have since said they thought they had been a little over the top," he added.
Mr Speakman was told certain words were not allowed in adverts and the words "motivated" and "enthusiastic" had been banished in the past. A spokeswoman for the Department of Work and Pensions said: "We do have guidelines of not using personality traits in adverts to ensure that there is no discrimination in the process."
