Have put a deposit on a Boxster S that I am buying privately. It is a 2008 3.4s And I would like to get a vehicle check done for peace of mind. It was MOTed and last serviced in March 2013. Has anyone else had experience of buying privately and therefore could give any pointers? Was thinking of using The AA but don't know if they are geared up for this or if there is a better alternative. All thoughts much appreciated.

Cheers
Ian

Don't bother with the AA.

Better options include: http://www.porscheinspections.com,http://www.findaporsche.com or a local specialist. Where is the car?

Thanks for coming back so quickly. I'm in Kent but the car is in Peterborough. Another thread has suggested Peter Morgan Consultants. Have you had any experience of any of these? First Porsche for me, anything I should be looking for?

Thanks again

Surely its inspection - then deposit?

Not used them but these guys had a decent feedback when I was looking for a specialist in Peterborough: http://www.twgsport.co.uk

Depending on where you are in Kent (or I guess more importantly where the car is) I am sure Cliff Lowe at Project Nine in Marden will do you a thorough PPI.

I bought my Cayman private...I asked the owner to take it for the OPC 111 point check which I paid for and if it passed I'd buy it, also it would qualify for a Porsche warranty.

I have just had an inspection undertaken on a 964 by Peter Morgan. I bought the car based on its contents which were very comprehensive. Peter went to see the car the day after I contacted him, called me straight after inspecting the car and gave me a comprehensive verbal report which was followed by a PDF report the following day detailing everything he found. I was very happy with the service. I am not connected with him or his company in any way.

Thanks all for coming back to me. It's give me food for thought, the OPC 111 has an appeal given the potential warranty option and now I've read some reviews on Peter Morgan, his service sounds pretty comprehensive. Just for clarity, deposit paid was to take the car off the market subject to it passing an inspection and checks.

Tanks again

Personally I'd make sure that any inspection includes a boroscope. Scored bores is pretty high up there in the scary/expensive things to go wrong and not all checks include them.

Bore checking is a bit of a minefield, IMO.

1) The owner/dealer has to let you remove engine parts to check... How keen would you be?!?
2) As I understand, its not obvious what to spot when checking bores. Do you see scoring, or just normal oil traces etc? Do all PPI companies actually know what they're looking at?
