my dad had this car in the early 90's spent a small fortune on it and we have found invoices for thousands of pounds

thought the current owner would like them, I see its insured at the moment so not dead

Your best bet is to get in touch with the 928 Register Secretary at the Porsche Club. Call the office and they'll be able to give you contact details. If the car is known to him he will be able to help.

send a fiver to the fee paying unit at dvlaa asking for all the previous owners. YOu'll get the known history plus recent owner. Go from there,

Well, the good news is that its currently taxed until July 2017 and has an Mot up to June, so has not been scrapped and is at least probably road worthy.
