I'm looking to spec up a new Cayenne Diesel to replace my Cayman R. I've searched but cannot find anything on what are the best things to order on a UK car. Does anyone have an idea on the options that give good residuals or are the must haves in the kid wagon..?

I bought mine a couple of years ago. My intention is to keep it for at least 6 years and probably 90k mls. As such, I spec'd it generously to maximise my comfort and convenience.

Some options are personal and a few fairly essential. My personal favourites, so far (2.5 years and 38k mls) are Air/PASM/20"/All Seasons and the Pre-Heater (just brilliant, although you might not think about it in mid-summer). Power tailgate useful, heated rear seats and blinds popular if you have kids.

Re-sale is hard to predict. You may not be able to measure the benefit/loss on individual options, but my guess is that used buyers will want to seek out highly spec'd and desirably equipped cars. But, always best to buy and keep for the long term.

BTW. The new Cayenne is very good, but it's not a Cayman/911. It might have a Porsche badge on it, but it's still a luxury SUV, not a sports car.

I didn't chose power tailgate or the fancy smooth steering. Regret both those

I've 21" wheels but no air. Don't miss that at all

I paid for the fancy xenon a but can't say I've had to use them as its not that dark yet

From experience of having just sold my Cayenne Diesel I'd say sat nav is a must as everyone asked if it had that, it didn't as I felt the extra cost at time of ordering was too much. Also the OPC I am dealing with said because it has the grey interior instead of black was a minus point too, but being cynical, I guess they would say that.....
So the new Diesel S has black interior and sat nav. I've gone for the same spec as before as personal choices and added power tailgate and DAB.
Can't wait for July when I can collect it. :-)

That's my only dilemma, I'm speccing the Turbo II's and wondering is air needed...? They've got a used CD in Silverstone I'm gonna try this week to see what it's like. Other than the air, i'm ready to go with the spec.

To be honest, there are very few 'must haves' and it all relates to personal circumstances and budget.
Telephone and PCM are imperative and will cost more than their value when it comes to resale. But, there are a group of people who say 'buy for yourself and not the next man'.
The rest of the options will provoke pages and pages of discussion.
Some like big wheels, some don't, some like pan roof, others prefer to save £1300 etc etc etc.
So, why don't you read this thread and see what you think...

Thanks for that, it was a great help. Have decided what I want now.

Wheels,
Nav,
Blueteeth,
iPod,
tail lift,
heated seats,
park assist,
heated windscreen,
servtronic,
multi steering wheel,
in a black on black colour.

Simple and straightforward spec, just gotta see who can offer any discount around the OPC's ad get the order placed.

Air suspension is great to have
Upgraded sounds is a nice thing too
Glass roof is good bonus

If you are going to lug stuff around, have you spec'd roof bars?
I put the towball on mine since I will stick bikes or a load carrier on there (rather than the roof) for fuel consumption purposes.
There is much debate about fitting roof rails post-manufacture.
I also have the panoramic roof which is great, along with phone preparation.

Hi, I have steel suspension and PASM (not really necessary), PCM is a must I think and DAB is probably a must if, as promised, he UK goes over to only digital. 20" wheels look nice, all weather tyres are quiet and I understand wear well. Powered tailgate is probably a good idea, its quite heavy. Great vehicle.

DAB is also bad on my car. Is this a Porsche issue or DAB Infrastructure problem?

We have DAB in another car both are poor in places and great in others, looks to be more based around coverage

Get good coverage on the motorways, ok in town and dreadful in the country.

You're right there are a couple of places that I pass through where, I'm guessing, the tuner retunes to a new transmitter and sound is lost for around a second, this didn't happen t the same point in my old DAB fitted car. Having said that I had an XF Jag and that sometimes lost the DAB signal completely in areas where I usually had great reception. My point was that if DAB broadcasts are all that's available I wouldn't want to have a secondhand car that could not (potentially) receive a broadcast.
