I have noticed a couple of lovely 7.1RSs for sale at around the £79k price, but then the 7.2RSs are mostly £10k more. My question is are they worth the extra £10k or is a low mileage ceramic braked 7.1 just as good. Also i realize that the 7.2 is only 3years old so seems better value ? st i like them both not sure which is the better buy.

I think 7.2 will be the most desirable/collectable down the line. I also think it looks a tad better, sounds a tad louder, and goes a little bit quicker too. A mate currently has one of each - too early for him to really say/compare yet as he's only just got the 7.2 (this month), but he seems to always be in it wink

I'd miss out the 7.1 and jump to 7.2, personally

The .2RS has the larger 3.8 engine, shorter gearing and a wider front track. Both are great cars, but the .2 is worth the extra in my view.

Cheers

I also think the PASM works much better on the 7.2 than on the 7.1
For me that is decisive.

I would recommend going for the gen 2 for reasons said above. 79k way too much for gen 1, I sold mine for 60k a year ago!

Gen 2 Rs is the only GT3 with shorter gearing.

I do love the look of the 997.1 RS in orange but they are 69k cars imo.

So gen 2 RS in white with gold would do it.

Of all the 7.2s available this is where my money would be going taking all things into consideration now the signal yellow one has gone...very good spec plus leather dash and low miles, plus clear wrapped:

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...

The blue/red Mid Sussex car looks odd with silver wheels and needs sorting, but would be worth a look if the price was lower. And then there's the grey/gold (best colour combo, but I'm biased), that's been on the market privately and then with multiple different dealers since late last year, with price increases with every new seller...

Nick Whale car also worth a look for right money.

Stay away from Super Ventura car...been for sale for over a year. PCCBs been removed and replaced with something odd looking (previously discussed last Autmun on PH) and generally not presented well and a bit tired.

Take your time, and if you can wait until Oct-Dec you will get a bargain, but one linked above is best spec, miles, price and condition combo of the lot...IMHO.

I went from a Gen 1 car to a Gen 2.

Other than the obvious improvements like the 3.8 engine and shorter ratios, there are lots of small improvements that make it a much better car, little things like being able to fold the seat forward so you can get your kit in the back or the improved sat nav all help. The interior of the gen 2 cars is also better, it's a bit more luxury.

I'm surprised the gap is only £10k, certainly cost me a lot more than that to change. Are you sure you are not comparing a high spec gen 1 against a low spec gen 2 ?

Surely you can get a high spec GenI for mid/high 60s. Check JZM white cars for instance.

My 7.1 RS (Black / Orange) sold at £75k last week, within 48hrs of going on the market. But she was a cracking / mint example.

I see another on the market at £79k at the moment. As always, the very best cars, fetch the best money.

Whether this is a sign that they are the more collectable variant - i don't know, but i believe that my car is to sit alongside a variety of high value exotica in a private collection (lucky chap)

Thanks Porkafly i was looking at that car you sent me as well.I know 79k is high for the 7.1RS but as Candellara said i would only want the best.
As much as i liked the yellow car i felt it had to many miles for me and i would really like ceramics this time. Still in no hurry and there is still one other car that has my interest, i know a totally different car, Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Never had a Aston or driven one though.

How come you sold it ? You seemed so enthusiastic after you got out of your Strad ?

Loved it, and it was a better car than the CS (IMO). However, market strong, E-Type, SL also in the garage, RS not getting used and baby on the way. Made sense. Miss it already, but think i'll stick something like an Elise or Exige in the garage for an occasional Sunday hoon.

I see the "good" White/Red one I linked to above has a deposit on it now....is that you or some other lucky fella?

Well done if it is...if not did you decide on the AMV12?

Drove a V12V last week and whilst very nice it was not sporty enough for me, classy yes but bit too heavy and controversially I feel the car would be better for not being manual which originally was the reason I drove it.
My biggest gripe was being a short ar53 5'9" and 30" leg I sit quite far forward and that just wasn't conducive to a comfortable driving position with the gear stick too far back for 2, 4 and 6th gear changes

I enjoyed that car more than my 4.0 in many respects .

Thank god, somebody else who didn't like the V12V. Everybody raves about them but I also found it heavy and a bit numb with a terrible driving position.

Can you purchase privately?

As I posted in the thread on the blue/red car I heard of someone who wants out of a grey/silver 3.8rs as he can't fit in it. Apparently the car has just sat in his garage.

He was offered £80k against a new M5 & was very happy as it was more than the trade bids of mid £70k's he was getting on the car. It could be worth putting a wanted ad out there as in the end he missed out on the M5 so still has the RS.
