Alfa Romeo Montreal - Any On Here ?

I doubt you'll find any Montreal owners on here - they'll all be too busy filling out credit card applications to pay for the latest borkage.
IIRC, very few parts were common to other Alfas (especially the oily bits) and it's a 40 year old 2.6l V8 with a 7k redline so anything mechanical is crazy-old-italian-supercar money. There's an old fuel pump in need of reconditioning on fleabay for $2.5k, but you can probably double that by the time you've got the thing rebuilt and fitted; an engine rebuild is into 'sell a kidney' territory...
That said, I've just done a search and found one for sale near me; "Not having being registered since 1983 ( Original blue NSW sticker in place! ) A very original car with original XWX Michelin tyres it has travelled a mere 57,880mls" says the blurb. For less money than a new base model Beemer, that is still one hell of a lot of car

That Orange one is just ......er er, well.... Lurvely. Best Montreal color by far.
As a car mad 11 year old, my Late Dad gave me a Motor Magazine Road Tests for 1972 book, which along with a V12 E Type roadster test ( Tony Dron, I think ) a 3 Litre Capri test ( read that 122 mph one to death ) a Pantera and an Espada had a brief Montreal test. I was hooked, that shape and its 138 mph top speed has me spell bound.
Fast forward to circa summer 1993 camping in France and a French classic car mag has a fantastic Montreal article featuring an Orange one. I just have to have one, but I'm skint and can barely run my 5 GT Turbo lol.
Fast forward again and I'm now on the look out for one. I know they are a car that can be transformed with a few tweaks, inc stiffer springs, front anti roll bar, Konis or Bilsteins and modern alloys and tires.
Incidentally, some time in 1972, a front spoiler was fitted, which apparently raises the top speed by 8 mph.

You should check out the one I posted above; yes, it's in Australia, but it's a right hooker, very low mileage, and (by the sound of it) corrosion free. I'm guessing you'd be wanting to change most of the components (suspension bushes, tyres etc) that would need replacing anyway.

Bought from cleevewood garage in bristol? If so I looked it over about 10years ago. Still remember it - very nice. £13k IIRC. Seems a bargain now!Umm what is effectively an Alfa 33 race car lump with Spica fuel injection. Lovely engine but bits are seriously expensive & hard to change. Last time I looked things like water pumps are very expensive & ages to change.

Re Left or Right hand drive, think I prefer Left, as I seems that most cars that were originally designed as L h drive allways are much nicer to drive. Plus I enjoy driving Lhd cars.
Aparently though, the steering box on Left hookers is prone to cracking which means a new ( re designed ) steering box which isn't cheap.
Re engine parts, yes looks like they can be pricey, seems many Montreals are low mileage cars. Not sure re the cost of a recon Spica fuel pump and injectors etc etc, but a Webber carb conversion seems popular.
Perhaps sling the original 2.6 Lump over the hedge and shoe horn in a Griff 500 motor lol !
However, suspension bits appear cheap to replace as Alfa 105 series based.
