Cheap & Reasonably Light MTB

Im sure that this is a frequently asked question, but search hasnt brought anything helpful up, so: Im looking for a cheap to buy and reasonably light and useful mountain bike.
I havent ridden a bike for a long time (so long, in fact, that my Dawes Kirk Revolution was new and cutting edge!) and Im looking for something that can bear my weight (110kgs) without failing and is reasonably light and useful.
My budget is extremely tight at the moment and I want to commit as little as possible until I am sure that I will enjoy riding. Im 6'3" so I expect that I will need a 21" or larger frame which probably restricts my options, but other than this I have little idea what Im looking for...
Any suggestions appreciated.

Without knowing what your budget is its not a question that would be easy to answer. I would suggest you get yourself down to halfords and look at the boardman range of bikes. In my opinion they offer excellent value for money. Lots of halfords around and easy to get any problems sorted. Perfect no nonsense place for beginners biking. Get on and buy one... As I say 'Too much analysis leads to paralysis'

Of course, my definition of light, durable and reasonable quality are relative to the low budget.

If you haven't ridden in a while, I wouldn't worry about the weight so much these days, there aren't any half-tonne monsters coming out from decent brands anymore, some are lighter than others of course, but they're all 'light enough' for most applications.
With a limited budget eBay is the way to go, stick to brands you know of or have been recommended and if you're not certain, post 'em up here and you're bound to get 15-20 opinions, all different

Narrowed it down to used Voodoo Hoodoo or Decathlon Rockrider 8.1, both £500-odd new and half that price ish lighlty used. Best spec for meagre money really (Air fork, hydro brakes etc)
Couldn't find one near me so bought an older but even better spec Giant XTC 2.5 for the same sort of money.

Recently sold my specialized Rockhopper Comp Disc 2008 on ebay for £260.
It was still a very solid bike.
That's the sort of thing you're after so keep an eye on Gumtree, ebay and pinkbike.
If you see something good though don't hang about, decent 2nd hand bikes tend to be snapped up quickly.
