Well, my car tastes vary from day to day, but in the not too distant future i will be in a position to use about 5 grand to buy a 3rd car, i had contemplated using this as a deposit and was 90% through the purchase process on an 07 plate santa fe a few weeks back (don't ask), but that fell through due to a silly dealer.

Priorities have changed a little however and so now i am moving towards something a little less sensible, a little softer of roof and with a more amusing loud pedal.

I know the £3k boster has been about for some time now, and knowing a mate who had a Mk1 and Mk2 that had the oil seal issue (both fixed under warranty) I know i could get a half decent looking mk1 with my 5 bags but would be wary of a big bill even with a FSH and a decent looking ownership history.

Am i being overly cautious or not? should i spend 3k on one and stick 2 in the bank or wax the lot on the lowest mileage/youngest that i can find?

MX5 or M3 would be the obvious choice given that this is PH so didn't want to post in GG for fear of the obvious response so figured this would be a more pertinent arena. Image wise i have never been a fan of either although i would have no qualms from a drive perspective of either having had a go in both.

Any positive RELIABILITY ownership experience that you can throw my way. I can always put my hands on a few grand here or there if i absolutely had to but obviously that would not be the preferred option!

The car would live outside, probably cover 6k a year max but with regular daily use not just as a weekend fun hack, and be looked after according to the schedule.

Look in this section for the poverty pork thread. 10k in the last year in mine half as a daily and the latter half a year as a weekend car. Mine wasn't quite as cheap as £5k but not far off. Like any 10+ year old car there will alwys be some maintenance to do.
