911SC model year question
Discussion
Have you tried googling for "Porsche VIN decoder"? I think it's on Rennlist but whichever you have to register on the site (free) then it's free to use.
However, I'm pretty sure it's easy to tell by looking at the engine - one has plastic fuel lines to the injectors, the other is metal (I can't remember which is which though, sorry).

Didn't they introduce the standard VIN from the 1981 model year, since this is not to the new standard it must be a 1980 car?
I think they still used the letters to denote year in the previous system and so the "A" would denote 1980. The standard used from 1981 used letters in position 10 and this started with "B" for 1981.
