So last year I bent my first ever dragtser at Santa Pod on its second outting. I've never raced before and was very pleased with 10.2 at 141. It was a shame that the car was lost, as I'm sure it had more in it.

John Sleath took pity on me and sold me the rolling shell of his Audi. Into this he fitted my LSX427 (tad smaller than his BBC). The exhaust side of the turbos was reduced to help the spool, which still takes a few weeks.

We took the car to York Raceway today for a shakedown run. I also needed to recover my bottle, which was lost as I bounced off the wall at the pod. The Monaro was a street car with a big engine. John's Audi isn't much like a car inside, so I spent the day feeling like a learner on his first lesson. My burnouts were ususally wrong, the worse being an epic smoker that filled the car with so much smoke it took a couple of minutes to clear. The launches were cr*p, as I was hopeless at spooling on the trans-brake and couldn't keep my foot down on launch. Most embarrassing was changing from first into neutral THREE times. The shift pattern is reversed and my brain took its time remembering.

By the end of the day I'd managed three decent runs. Boost is still low, so I hope that I can up my game to match the car's capabilities:
Best 60-foot: 1.4780
Best 1/4 ET 9.6687
Best 1/4 MPH 147.57

And can I say, that York is a cracking place to run. Good strip, lots of free time, great crew and fabulous atmosphere (all the racers are very friendly).

As for the puddle, I should have realised that puddles don't exist on hot, sunny days. It was right at the end, by the hay bales on the run-off. I was being lazy and splashed through the edge of it. Plenty of liquid splashed into the car. It smelt bad, being the run-off from the pig-style at the end of the strip. Yes my interior had just been splash with a gallon of pig piss.
