Right I need to buy a new one - I know people with the 500 I know people with the 510. There is around a £70 difference etc etc.... 510 connects to iPhone etc ..... not huge differences bar touchscreen on the 510 and larger screen interface. Lets put it to the vote people....make your voices heard........ well ur clicks at least.... :-)
I've got a 500 and it does all I need... For now. It has been playing up (which I think I've sorted) but I spoke with Garmin who can replace it for £68.
If I had to go down that route I'd stump up the difference and get the 510. Newer, extra features etc. if I was buying new if get the latest version.

IIRC the 510 has a longer battery life. Not that it's an issue on the 500. After 18 months-2 years (?) I'm yet to see my 500 drop below about 85% despite heavy use and long rides. The screen is just fine on the 500, as are the buttons which negate the need for a touchscreen.Both the 500 and the 510 give you the same info, so you "learn" nothing more. And connecting to your iPhone is, IMO, pointless. Yet another big/heavy/expensive thing to lug around/clog your pockets (iPhone), and a drain on the battery life of both. You'd be charging the 510 via USB, so why not just upload the information then?
Save your pennies. 500 + speed/cadance + out-front mount, and you'll still be £10-20 better off than going for the 510 alone.
Just bought a 500 with heart rate and cadence. ^ Jimbo sums it up nicely, had a play with a 200 thanks to Pablo which was good enough, but went for the 500 purely for the data I was after to utilize for my training plan. I didn't think the features of the 510 justified the extra cost but it depends on what's important to you. Amazon are selling the 500 with HR & C for £176.

I find it odd how many people seem to automatically default to the expensive Garmins.TBH, the GLONASS thing, whilst good for geeks like me, isn't an issue. By the time I've donned my shades (arms outside the helmet straps, of course) and, errr...adjusted...myself...my 500 has a fix. And never has GPS coverage - or the lack of - been an issue. The gap-filling and/or improved accuracy brought by using both GPS and GLONASS isn't an issue either: a few metres here and there at certain times of day isn't going to make much/if any difference.
Depends on what you value I guess, most people justify a Garmin on the basis of the improved accuracy over a smartphone. I use mine when commuting, the 510 gets a fix before I've left the underground garage we've got at work, sounds like a minor thing but waiting around outside for a signal is annoying when you just want to get home. Likewise the phone syncing works great and garminsync.com then pushes new activities to Strava automatically, it's all very seamless.

Has anyone ordered off handtec.co.uk as cited above? Their prices seem very competitive but I've always been one to believe in the old saying 'if it's too good to be true then it usually is'.
I do understand that UK customers do have to pay VAT but still £85 for a Garmin 200 seems very tempting. Are they worth the money?
