E-Type Competition History Help Needed
Discussion
Hi All,
Thought i'd ask on here as i'm trying to piece together the competion history on my E-Type and i'm struggling to find further details + any old photo's
The car was raced predominantly throughout the 80's, 90's and i'm told entered 48 Events with 43 finishes.
She's a light blue Series 2 FHC, reg YLU 470H and was owned by a gentleman called Roger Seymour and the car was sponsored by Vicarage Engineering / CMC Engineering
I believe it was raced with HSCC and JEC - The only details i have are as follows
Sept 88 - Oulton Park, HSCC RS Champ - 1st in Class
July 91 - Donnington - E Type Challenge - 1st in Class
July 91 - Donnington - 100 Mile Endurance - 5th Overall
July 91 - Pembrey - E Type Challenge - 1st in Class
July 91 - Pembrey - 100 mile Endurance - 2nd in Class
May 92 - Donnington - E Type Challenge - 2nd Overall / 1st in Class
July 92 - Pembrey - E Type Challenge - 2nd Overall / 1st in Class
September 92 - Cadwell Park - E Type Challenge - 1st Overall
May 93 - Pembrey - E Type Challenge - 1st in Class
Sept 93 - Mallory - E Type Challenge - 1st in Class
Oct 93 - Snetterton - 6 Hour Birkett - 1st Overall
Sept 96 - Manx Classic Hill Climb - 1st and 2nd in Class (2 driver Entry)
Sept 96 - Willaston Pursuit Sprint - 3rd in Class
Sept 97 - Isle of Man Promenade Sprint - 1st in Class
June 2001 - Donnington -Lynx 40th E Type Anniversay Race - 6th Overall / 1st in Class
Aug 2003 - Donnington - E Type Cjallenge - ist in Class
The car was accepted for Entries in the Top Hat Best of British and the Sebring Salute in 2004
If anyone has any further information about events she competed in / entries / old photo's - it'd be greatly appreciated

Thanks Dave. I have the XKE data extract but i'm keen to try and find more detail on it's competition historyThis is a very well known E and was featured in one of the monthly comics ( C and S ) years ago . From memory Andrew Tart built a hot engine etc for it.
It has been for sale quite a few times over the years.
Fit an Alloy bonet to it, the diffrence is amazing , the standard steel E bonnet is ridiculously heavy. Is it still on Revolutions ?

The car was in quite a sad state when i purchased it and as such i'm working through it piece by piece to bring it back to A1. The Revolutions are still with it although i also have a set of centre laced 6.5" wire wheels. It has been for sale quite a few times over the years.

The body is in great condition (as she had a body refurb after an "off" at Mallory? in the 90's Specially strenghtened ribbed sills were fitted along with new floors etc. Body resto was done by CMC
The exhaust has been changed to a new 2.25" stainless system with tubular manifolds and rear silencer delete and the cylinder head was despatched to Sigma engineering for a refurb (retaining the special cams Andrew made for the car) The list goes on and on but she is starting to get back to her former glory
Many have suggested alloy bonnet, triple webers etc but i want to try and keep the originality of the car fairly intact and represent it as an immaculate car but as it was in the nineties when it was racing. The car has seen little or no money spent since it last raced in 2003 so i am figuring maybe £30k to get her back to where she needs to be. Madness maybe on a Series 2, but given the history & provenance of the car, i think it's fitting. BTW, with the head refurb and some initial fettling she's still a very very quick car and would embarrass alot of modern supercars.

Throwing 30 K on a Series 2 IS Madness, everyone wants a Closed headlamp car.
Forget wires throw them over the nearest hedge and keep the Revolutions. A lighter bonett is a must on an E, there is Far too much weight ahead of the front wheels on these cars, its Very noticable when hoing into a corner fast. A lighter bonet makes such a difference. I believe your car was dynod @ 304 hp.

304hp is correct - on SU's!!Forget wires throw them over the nearest hedge and keep the Revolutions. Can i be as pertinent to ask how you know so much about YLU 470H?
Regarding the wires - the car originally ran wires (in the early 90's) but the Revolutions are still with the car. I appreciate your sentiment regarding money spent etc on an S2 but, sometimes it's less about the money and more about the "doing good" by the car's history which is one thing you cannot derive from modern cars.
I am not looking to make money on this - but simply enjoy her and bring her back to her race winning condition in the 90's
This car was a very regular competitor on the Manx Classic throughout the nineties. I suggest you get in touch with the Manx Motor Racing Club who have all the records (the event was last run in 2000, after they stopped the Willaston street race in Douglas it was never the same). The car was always quick, stylish and immaculate. I remember it convoying at high speed up the M6 with Bill Goodall's Ferrari 275GTB on the way to the ferry at Heysham.

That's great - thankyou. I'll get in touchI did on the off chance, download the Duke Motorsport video of the Manx Rally in 1996 and low and behold, the car is heavily featured and is indeed a camera car, so lots of on-board footage.

Wonderful sentiment, a man after my own heart.Do what pleases your head, eye or heart. We're not here for long and money is just paper with squiggles on.

What work does it need doing to it now ?
Engine is sorted - just needs rolling road at Sigma Eng. Body is all good although rear screen chrome was missing, so the bootlid is at the bodyshop at the moment for repaint, new glass rubber and chrome insert.Radiator is leaking, so an alloy rad from Radtec will take it's place. New headlining required as this has mildew spots on it. Front suspension has been overhauled, but rear IRS still to come out and new shocks & springs to be fitted and tidied with parts powder coated etc
Bonnet needs attention as the inside is covered in a thick coat of underseal, so it's a case of getting it blasted & refinished correctly.
It's actually the smaller items that are time consuming - i'm currently rebuilding the heater box with a new matrix & new fan motor.
