More practice - but if it's winding you up, leave it for a while and go race. After getting stuck, I found that by doing the license elements singly rather than one after the other, I got them all first time.
Sorry I can;t give more specific help ... ages since I did it..

Sorry Campbell, but I have to disagree. I found Lotus Challenge to be the worst driving game I've ever played on PS or PS2 - that said, I use a force-feedback steering wheel. It might be okay with joypad, but with a wheel, it's like driving a car with ancient bluetack and twigs for trackrod ends..(cf. Volvo 340)
Do yourself a favour - rent it from Blockbuster if you're thinking of buying it! That 3 quid saved me an impusive £30 spend.

Unless you've got one of those cheat cartidges (Gameshark??) there aren't really any cheats - you've just got to practice!
The only thing I can suggest is that you watch the demonstration of test before trying it, that way you'll have a clear mental picture of what you have to do - just wait until you get to the Special Licence!

Dump your girlfriend, all your friends, never go out and just order takeaways.
Thats the tip for getting all your licenses. You just wait until you have to try and get your professional licenses - a full lap of the Complex String...Nyagnngh...
But once you get the 'fluidity' and the ability to grab any car and haul it around with fairly respectable times, it is a magical moment.
Practise, practise, practise...

The first time I went on-line I was asked in no uncertain terms to practise off-line
It's a great game though. I found Monza to be the easiest circuit and there's generally a server running with that circuit with around 20 people racing. If you can get your Monza lap time down to 1.32-4 it would be worth joining.

quote:Grand Prix Legends is a formula one racing game based in the 60s. It was released ages ago by Sierra but you can still buy it from amazon and many other places for about 9 quid. It runs on any pc from a pentium 300 (I think) and drivers have been released to allow it to make use of 3d cards so it looks simple but very nice on screen. It has been said that it is the best car simulation you can buy but that means that the learning curve is steep and to get the best out of the game you need a controller with an analogue throttle. There were no wings on 60s f1 cars so they slide very easily and the races are very close, lots of out braking and so on. The level of adjustment on the cars is stupidly complex but you can download car set-ups from the web and play with those as a base line.
How and where ????
VROC is an on-line community where you download a chat room, run it and wait for a race to join. Each server starts up a game with a limited amount of time to qualify for grid positions and then you race. Can't remember the url for VROC but I can look it up when I get home if you're interested.
I loved gran turismo but racing against other people is much better than against computers. It's not real life, obviously, but it's better than watching telly when it's raining

The min requirement for a pc according to this chat group is a P90. There are some nice pictures of the game too.
To get it working with you nvidia there are patched available on-line, you just need to find them. Try www.papy.com/html/downloads.htm and try google after that.

The minimum spec is a P166, but you *really* need a 3D card to get the frame rate with a PC that ancient..

I raced GPL for 3 years in the IGPLC, it got incredibly time consuming and I found I just had too much life to accomodate it. VROC racing is really good fun providing you don't get into a race with people who are more interested in testing the damage engine rather than enjoying abit of wheel to wheel.

For anyone who cares I can get around the Nurburgring in 8:06 in a Cooper (I only ever drove the slower cars).
