What's everyone's thoughts on hang the LN engineering IMS bearing upgrade to the 997? Mine is a tip. Thinking it will be cheaper than having the engine rebuilt if it fails.

Or am I worrying over a small risk. Seems score bores is more common.

Assuming you have no warranty I would get the ims upgrade and a new clutch the sooner the better.

And get the Hartech low temp thermostat now.

It's piece of mind.

Just did my 996 along with new clutch and flywheel - seeing as the box was out it was a no brainer.

It's a tiptronic. It doesn't have a clutch like a manual box.

I have a 2003 996 tip which has done 45k. My approach to this IMS bearing thing has been to insert a magnetic sump drain plug and do frequent oil changes. IMS bearing failure should show up with the accumulation of metal particles on the plug.

I believe that LN Bearing upgrade can only be fitted (external access)to early 997. From 2006 bearing can only be fitted by full engine tear down.
