This black box sits up behind the dash. There are no markings in it. The red blue & green on the connector come out of it plus two thick black cables. Disconnecting it doesn’t seem to do anything. Any idea what it's for?

An old alarm?

Is it a quiz you know the answer to? What's the prize Joe? wink

No, I don’t know the answer but you might be right. Mystery 4 is why does a “Tech-Tronics” fob work a “Laserline” alarm?

My alarm immobiliser box looks just like that and is in the same place you describe (the receiver is elsewhere). But remove mine and the car will be as dead as the proverbial dodo

When I disconnect the little connector it makes no difference. But when I disconnect the multi-pin plug from the Laserline one everything is dead. However, if use the cut-out switch to isolate the Laseline box (see Mystery 2) everything works fine except the remote central locking and of course the alarm. I found all these boxes the other year when I did the dash job but decided to leave everything alone on the basis of “if it aint broke don’t fix it”. I can live without remote central locking but I would like the alarm to work. From memory there is another little black box behind there somewhere with what looks like an aerial wire coming out of it.
