Croydon nabs Porsche drive for Dubai

TVR driver to pilot GT3 with Bennett for Nash

GT regular Rob Croydon will share the Graham Nash Motorsport Porsche GT3 with ex-Group C protagonist Del Bennett in the forthcoming FIA GT race in Dubai, UAE next weekend.

Team Principal Graham Nash commented, "Having Rob and Del in the Porsche should make it a competitive entry. The car has just undergone a rebuild after the Spa 24 hours so it’s very much on the button. We are close to signing a third driver which we will announce shortly, but so far I am happy with the pairing we have”.

Kent-based Croydon has driven in the British GT this year with both Colin Blower Motorsport and more recently RSR in their TVR 400R. “I drove a GT3R last weekend in Spa. This was the first time since I raced one with Freisinger in 2001 at Daytona, it felt great. I am really looking forward to driving with Graham. The team has a good reputation and I have heard only good things about the Dubai circuit. It should be a great experience”.

Hertfordshire-based Del Bennett’s name will be familiar with those who recall the Group C2 championship in the 1990’s when he campaigned such exotic cars as the Harrier C2. He is very excited to be racing in Dubai, and with GNM. “It was a short notice deal but I am looking forward to it. I was hoping to race in Kyalami later this year but that race has been cancelled, so racing the Porsche in the UAE is a great fall back option!”

He added “The FIA GT championship is a very professional series. It will be good for me to see how I compare with the others in the N-GT class. I think it’s good to be working with Rob as he has raced a lot recently so the two of us should do a good job together”.

Rob Croydon is supported by Eil.com, Motorracinglinks.com, Cranfield University and Crash.net and Del is supported by Group C Lighting.co.uk

Qualifying begins on Wednesday and the 3 hour race will start on Friday at 3pm local time.

After the first qualifying they are on 25th overall and 8th in N-GT. The lap time is 1:23.
The Maseratis are unbelievable quick, first despite 100 kilos extra weight.
