Afternoon.

Heading to Italy on the 23rd, stopping overnight in Strasbourg on the way down.

Can anyone give me route which will pick up some of the great mountain passes like Furka, Grimsel etc.

We've done them before but as part of a convoy back from the Alfa Centenary in 2010.

We're also planning a day trip from Menaggio to Stelvio but I think we have that one sorted smile

Cheers,

Simon

first I would head via Luxembourg as the motorway is free and you save £80 for no difference in time going through Saarbrucken and Pirmasens, picking up the B500 through the Black Forest.
Then to Andermatt and the Grimsel and Furka passes

You've planned a nice trip there clap

Just for your info, the main route going along the east coast of Lake Como is closed at the moment and won't probably open for the next couple of months, so:

1st: do NOT take the ferry from Menaggio to Varenna, as you'll be literally stuck there;

2nd: most of the road traffic will be diverted on the west coast of the lake, so try to leave early enough in the morning from Menaggio northbound.

Apart from that I'd love to join you to the Stelvio, but I have to work, so have fun for me too thumbup

Currently the weather in Valtellina is terrible (on lake Como too, but at least is not snowing).

Webcams from the Stelvio Pass look like this:

And the route is closed from Bormio upwards.

Intredasting scratchchin

We've got four nights booked at the beginning of July in Santo Stefano in the Abruzzo region, and day two takes us from Freiburg to Desenzano on Lake Garda. My route currently takes in the Grimsel and Furka passes, but I completely forgot about the St. Gotthard Pass being on the way as well! Excellent!
